I respect your point, and I don't want to go to the whole why this why that on the spiritual or whatever level. A lot of innocent peoples pay the price and fall because of other irresponsible ones. Innocent peoples that unfortunately are at the wrong place, at the wrong time, so to speak. But I don't want to be EVER the one making other people suffer because of my stupids decisions and irresponsible acts.

Seems the subject is getting a bit off track, the OP just smoked some weed for crying out loud, and got discharged because of it, 10 years ago! He is concerned about it, as he should be but, he didn't kill anyone, didn't get busted for bags of meth or coke, didn't leave the AO in Iraq/Afghanistan, walk to a nearby town and kill everyone in sight. Heck, he didn't even stand up in front of an Obama rally and scream, "I'm Gay". He just smoked some weed guys. Regardless how anyone feels about "weed", it doesn't mean the guy is a full blown junkie and I am pretty confident that what happened 10 years ago will no effect his possibilities of getting a job, with most carriers. Just be honest comrade and keep your Integrity.

Your right and the reason they are more serious about drug charges is because "they" lump all drugs into one pot,,,no pun intended..lol Weed is not like meth, coke, heroin or most pill's from the pharmacy that are on the control substance list. Heck, can't even by some over the counter med's without showing your id and what not.

Thank you for your comment. Never did I ask for pity and at 21 you're right, I should have known better. My consequences are life long and believe me I've felt it. My point is.....If an armed robber can get a second chance in this industry, what about someone who served in operation iraqi freedom, came home smoked some weed and got in trouble 10 years ago?? I understand "lifelong consequences" and i'm in for a lot of turn downs. Right now I'm still in CDL training so I haven't applied to any of these companies but when I do I'll hope for a second chance. Asking if people thought I would get it or not, that's all. thank you for your post.

Thanks to all of you who sent PM's and contacted me through this post to give me hope. Regardless of the naysayers I believe my motivation will overcome the dumb decision I made years ago. I will comeback to this post and let you know how it worked out for me. A couple months of school left.......

Might want to think about using a narrower brush. I am a combat vet and I don't feel the op or anyone else owes me an apology or that anyone should ask me for forgiveness. I don't believe my service qualifies me to sit in judgment of anyone based on a tiny sample of their life. I know when I returned to the US of someone had put a joint in front of me I'd probably have smoked it. God knows I spent quite a while drinking myself into dreamless sleep.

Back on the subject at hand. If it were my decision I'd ask and allow the OP a chance to come clean. If he did and he was otherwise qualified I'd make the hire.

To the OP, start contacting potential employers now. Don't give anymore than they ask for but again, be honest and have Integrity.

Keith-You took me wrong on this. Small things can stay on a man file all his life. Maybe my brush was to wide, that was not my intention. When I said I forgive, was not this case. I went through several operations to repair my shoulder and hand, and I finally made it. I had a hatred, for the guys that came back from Canada. It was only killing me 'till I let it go. But to this day, I know two guys that cannot get good jobs for something that happened 40 years ago. Fromm is a vet, that made one simple mistake. Mike
