I'm trying to do some research for an acquaintance. He just got his authority, but the brokers he is trying to work with are telling him that he needs six months of operating experience before they will take him on. He doesn't want to lease on with another company, but doesn't know what other options there are. Does anyone have any advice? Are there brokers out there who will take him on without the experience? Are there any options other than driving for another company?

    Thanks in advance!

Yea thoses brokers that want 6 months don't know any more about the trucking business than the trucker knows about the brokerage business.
Tons of brokers out there that will take on a new business. Uti

I was a broker for C.H.Robinson for 3 yrs. you need an MC# and insurance and can start hauling loads right away.

Yes. Your friend needs to chat them up and sell them on his vast trucking experience and awesome, well maintained equipment.

There will be some that won't bend on a time-in-business requirement. However, there will be a few loads that are either low risk (to the broker) or that they are desperate to move. Do a good sales job and they will load you.

Do 3 or 4 of those and you now have a reference sheet to provide. This will become a non-issue before you know it.

Thanks for the info. Do you have links to their website or a good contact for him to speak with?

If the broker needs to move a load bad enough, that requirement will be waived. There are plenty of brokers who will load a newer O/O. Might not be the best loads, but it will be a start.
