pattyj, There are always creative workarounds to any situation that WILL give one what they want, the trick IS to find the angle. Did you have a lumper registered LLC and ask the check be written out to them when you were talking to your carrier? Remember your carrier doesn't need to know you own the LLC. They need to know your LLC company name, and that they will be providing lumper services for you today... for $XXX amount of money... period!
So, there should never be a reason for an argument to start much less escalate.KeithT1967 and pattyj Thank this. -
I've been driving OTR for (coming up on ) 30 years now, and while I've always had lumpers to deal with, they have become an even bigger pain in the ###.
I miss the days of lumpers being able to grab a truck before it even drove onto a companie's property and being eager to unload your trailer. Even bidding on your load against each other so you didnt have to pay so #### much $$.
Now days, you can expect to be met with 1 lumper company like Capstone and wait in line to talk to THEM instead of the other way around. Now days you are on their turf and treated like crap in some cases. With rules added..like showing your CDL and being no earlier than an hour before your appointment.
Corporations have pretty much ruined it for truckers. -

A box with bottles of frying oil broke spilled he did not see.
needless to say the fact he could not drive out along with witnesses when ambulance came;
and he used fake lumper name -
Arrive build 120 pallets out of it on small wood no less. Basically sorting for their stores. What a scam. -
Dont need forklift certification. I used to work the loading docks at cold storage 20 years ago. If the boxed meat was on the floor, i would charge something like 200 bucks to unload the truck for the guy. IF he didnt want to pay, i would let him load up the pallets and i would pull them off while unloading other trucks. no big deal. Most would pay. ITs not an absurd charge having to unload all that weight off a 18 wheeler by hand when thats not the job you signed up for

Sometimes 1 item for a whole pallet..Don't miss that anymore..Of course wether Alpo out of PA or homebase of Crete, Ne. once Alpo foods became a part of Nestle it really became a nightmare..Especially Stupid Valu in Hopkins MN or Fort Wayne especially -
