I just noticed a post from Frystar under Favorite Trucking Companies: Werner Enterprises from 4 days ago. She's been out with a female trainer and seems to be doing fine.

*blush* Honestly, I never thought so many people were paying attention! It seems I have my own little family here now:)

Yes, I'm otr with a trainer. She is 65, and a great trainer. We all have our bad sides, and she has two: 1)No matter what she says, if you wake her up before it's her turn to take the wheel, she gets very grouchy and nitpicks everything. 2)She HATES technology, so no TVs or plugs for my laptop are to be found anywhere in here. I have to post with my Blackberry.

There is one very large beef I had that almost made me request a new trainer: no cell phones (even with ear pieces) OR radio listening allowed for the first two weeks of driving. I mean, wtf? What do I do when I'm tired? Coffee and smoking are allowed, as well as eating, so that "distraction" argument doesn't fly.

I drop her score from a 95 to a 90, but still an A in my book.

Good to hear fom you Fyrstar. I for one am soo glad you found a trainer. I know it's probly not perfect but just take the knowledge she has to share and keep your eye on the big picture. Remember it's just for a little while, then your off on your own doing what you love the way you want to do it, laptop an all. Please keep me posted on your progress and e-mail or post when you get the chance and as always be careful, c you in the funny papers.:biggrin_25525::biggrin_25514::biggrin_255:

No radio? Does she sleep while you drive? If so, then why no radio? If she's awake to keep you company, chat with you, keep you alert, fine. But if she's asleep and you're driving, why can't you have the radio on softly to help keep you company??? I can see they'd not want it LOUD but it's nice to have company in that form when you're driving all alone, especially late at night.

    Sounds good, though. GOod luck!!!!

During Evo I we also had the "No Distractions" policy. Evo II that eased up a little and we could have the radio on a bit, but it was shut off immediately if hairy situations developed. Evo III I was on my own and put my radio on as I saw fit, but even now it gets shut off when traffic gets tight, or anywhere else when I need my full attention on the driving.

Glad to hear you're out into the training, and hope all goes well for you! :)

I don't understand this "No Radio" thing. If you can't listen to the radio and still keep your focus on your job, then how can you listen to the trainer and still keep your focus? When I trained new drivers I never slept and let them have it on their own until the last few days of their training process. They have to get used to what is real and what they will be dealin with when they get on their own. This includes the radio and anything else in their immediate area. I guess every trainer has their own way to train, but it sure sounds a little odd to me.

Now that I have a bit of time under my belt, I understand the no radio rule, but only if they screw up. Cell phones are okay if they show they can focus on more than one thing at a time.

Wow, this is an old thread.

    Just reliving my old days.

I know now why they turned me down.

I didn't list my old name as a previous name. Marten did the same thing, then proceeded to email my personnel photo around the terminal and use me as a joke. This came to me recently (last year, anyway) from the maintenance supervisor at Marten that called me after he left the company.

(The last paragraph is all hearsay, may've come from a disgruntled employee, I'm over it either way).
