The fuel prices are perfect. The reason people are crying about the price of fuel is because they are not passing the cost along to the shipper and consumer who are receiving the real benefits. Fuel prices are only a problem because there is not a standardized mandatory industry wide fuel charge! If there was it wouldn't matter if diesel went to $3000.00 a gallon because the shipper and consumer were paying for all of your fuel. Contact OOIDA and get them to help organize the drive to get legislation to nationalize a standard mandatory FSC. Without it trucking companies are paying the additional costs of fuel while shippers and consumers don't feel the pinch. The reason a strike won't work is because there is no final solution to a strike. The government won't just subsidize your fuel costs, and if you can't even get guys to stop hauling cheap, how are you going to get them to stay home when the rates go up due to a partial strike. The high price of fuel is only your problem if you pay it to haul a load and it is not passed on the the shippers and consumers who benefit.

This is not true.. It would be everybody's problem..Why? becuase brokers/shippers would know drivers will pull for that price..Thus making freight prices low and ultimately making it everybody's problem..

There is a little more to it then what you may be seeing.. It's not as easy as 1,2,3.... You say pass the fuel cost onto your customer.. Well lets look at this, lets say you own a company that only has 30 trucks.. You have a few accounts with customers and you have been taking good care of them.. Small business owners usually have to charge a little more then larger companies cause thier operating cost are generally a little higher.. You pass the charges onto the customer now the customer has to pass the charge onto the consumers.. They start to loose business becuase now people will go to Walmart cause they can't afford it.. Well now the customer loyal or not is going to look at lowering his cost not to lose business.. Freight is going to be one of the first things they will look at.. Thus your contract will be cut and they will go with J.B

You now have 15 trucks sitting doing nothing and drivers on unemployment

That's why the FSC needs to be mandatory and regulated so that the JB Hunts of the world will be on the same playing field with you. JB Hunt is not cheaper across the board on base freight charges, if they were there would be no independent owners right now. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3 if you and JB Hunt get the same fuel surcharge and it is regulated, then you will have an even playing field and you won't be paying Walmart's fuel like you are right now.

Mandatory fsc or not. the reality that we are seeing is that as the fsc goes up the rates are going down so what good does it do?

I agree...do NOT run without a fuel surcharge!!! MAKE them pass it on to the consumers and then the consumers would support truckers when they have to pay $10 for one loaf of bread. If you run without a fuel surcharge with these prices...and eat the cost, you are simply a FOOL. JB Hunt has always been a cut-throat ########## and he will get good rates on fuel...but eventually they WILL have to pass it to the consumers as well! I think we all will HAVE to do something to wake people up soon. It is getting really bad now. $3.99 for diesel here in TN!
