My wife may drive later on but she just wants to ride along for now. Any couples doing this ?
We don't have any reason for her to not go with me and I just wonder if the passenger might get bored.
Anyone have wife as a rider only ?

Bored?? There is paperwork, navigation, cooking and other things that you, as a driver, usually do that doesn't take a CDL... Get her involved... There is also Kindle books, knitting, cross stitch (which while driving would be a challenge... LOL)... BEST of all, there won't be the distance and loneliness that comes with her being at home... HOWEVER... It is a rolling walk in closet... Just make sure that much closeness would work for you
DDC, rockee, luvtotruck and 3 others Thank this. -
my wife doesn't get bored
she is busy watching other drivers back up
and says "How come you can't drive like that"
and she maps out the next bathroom break
or trying to get me to stop so she can shoo
the deer back in the woods
worse was when she wanted to rescue a dog she thought was hurt
and it was a coyote having deer breakfastcabwrecker, Mr Ed, wing_rider and 16 others Thank this. -
My wife goes along and is very helpful in cooking, cleaning, watching the load board for the next load. Very handy
And even with my truck, sometimes it's little crowed.
Some shippers won't let you have anyone in the truck to enter to load, like the Ports in Norfork. They make the wife wait on on the street. So I avoid those places.
Otherwise it can be very nice have the wife. When we're parked, she finds places to go see. Like last weekend, we took the bus down to French Quartes in New Orleans.dennisroc and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Mine rode with me until she started having "morning sickness!"
Prior to the morning sickness she spent her time telling me how to drive.
Try to find a suitable company that has APU's.passingthru69, blairandgretchen, White Knuckle and 1 other person Thank this. -
Mine goes with me at least 2 weeks a month if I don't have a student on board. She never gets bored. She brings enough stuff to do that I almost have to factor all her junk into the empty weight of the truck if I know I'm getting a heavy load lol
and my downtime sure is a lot more enjoyable hehehe
the only real downside is there trip planning and then there is wife planning. Generally adds about 30 minutes to an hour to each trip lol she can't go quite as far between barhroom stops as I can so I have to figure in the additional stopsdtcscout, dennisroc, Cranky Yankee and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks everyone , I have been doing a lot of searching on here and still have not decided what company to check out. I thought about Tanker, Chinatown you know of any tanker jobs for newbies out of school other than Schneider ?

New CDL grads:
Superior Carriers
SVTN
CTL Transportation
James J. Williams
LW Miller (sometimes)
Some others do on a case by case basis; just try any you're interested in. Some will bend their own hiring criteria if they really get in a bind for a driver.dennisroc Thanks this. -
The wife just got on the truck with me yesterday and already got thrown out of the bunk. I had to break hard for a deer on a 2 lane highway and yelled deer a second before hitting the brakes. Next think I know the wife is in the cab with me. After checking that she was alright she got the "thats why i told you to use the net back there speech.
Other than thats it's been nice.dennisroc and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
