Well said Patty.
I'm of the mindset that if I will happily earn 5-10k less per year and have a great life, as opposed to living in a self imposed prison where I do nothing except drive.
Some people have a pros and cons way to make decisions. I use the Death Bed test. Will I think this was a good decision when I'm on my death bed. Work like a slave, never leave the truck, have no life and do nothing interesting - nope, that doesn't pass the test for me.

Any half decent truck stop should be within walking distance of a "Strip Club" LOl
-
The ameristar casino in kansas city,mo just off I435 has plenty of truck parking, great restaraunts and a multiplex cinema.
I take my break there whenever i get the chance. -
When I was OTR Circuit City had just gone under.
So whenever I wanted to go shopping I'd find a Circuit City and bump their dock.
A lot of Home Depot/Walmart/Lowes shopping centers have "cement pads" an the side where the trucks are supposed to park.
As long as you leave room for others to get by.
I won't spent the night in West Memphis now that I don't work for USA anymore (they have a terminal there) but why bother with chain food when Ray's BBQ is up the block? On the corner of 131 and the I-55 service road. There's an abandoned gas station across the way leveled except for the concrete pad. Just go in slowly as there are some nasty potholes where the pumps used to be. There aren't enough people around there to be a problem. Nothing but cotton fields for a mile.
Hangman by your definition, the TA in Youngstown (Austintown) OH would be a "decent" truck stop. It sucks, but there's a lot of fun things to do in walking distance.n3ss, Johnjohn and "Hang - Man" Thank this. -
A shower wait can be that long but lets say a hour, a sit down buffet another hour that leaves 8 of your ten, get a breakfast say 45 minutes left you with 7.25 hrs of sleep. Now where do you figure in a movie?

Most all Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops have truck parking, and are happy to have you park there and spend your money. In most cities, if you can drop your trailer at a TS, you can find a movie theater nearby that you can bobtail to. Some malls, especially these newer outdoor malls, have distant out of the way parking lots that you can probably park the whole rig in.
In the Denver area, two that come to mind is Northfield/Stapleton, multiple restaurants, comedy club, Bass Pro, and a movie theater. You can park along the So. road for up to 10 hrs. If you drop at the T/A or Sapps, you can bobtail and park almost anyplace, except close to Target or Bass Pro. Same with Orchard Square off 136th and I-25, they have large outlying parking, it's just difficult to access, again, multiple restaurants, shopping, theater. -
Look Folks.....Get the job done,Go HOME then do your thing.
First of all, The general public hates trucks, Shopping centers,Theaters are NOT a place for tractor trailers (unless delivering)
Secondly, You kinda look like a moron pulling a 53' clumsy dry box wirh a space ship looking tractor into an 'organized' parking lot (I say spaceship because the tractors of today look horrible)
Thirdly, If you have that much time on your hands..you are throwing your life away...(Go Home) Nothing beats time AWAY from that darn truck.
Go Home,Be with your friends and family....... -
If your pushing so hard that all you do is run, run, run, then go home, I bet your more tired come the weekend or your home time, then the driver who takes a little time for him/herself while on the road.
