That works out to about 3 loads/week....???? Where are you? Where do you haul to? What are you hauling poles, pulp?

As i stated before, i have been through several of these shut downs. A shut down is a temporary fix and will not solve the problem of fuel costs.

First off, its illegal to shut down---that means independents and companies.
They can actually arrest you as an independent for striking.
In the shut downs in washington dc in the 70's, it went on for two weeks and then the law stepped in and started to arrest people.
When things were over, congress stated that truckers could pass on a 13% surtax on fuel. Hey thats great for companies like swift---try that as an independent---and find out what happens---they will just get rid of you and hire someone who will run until he goes broke since hes desperate.

As i stated before, a program has to be implimented by the government and the industry---recognizing that truckers fill a need. I dont care what you call it, maybe subsidation, like the milk business----in other words if you are commercial, you get a special rate on your diesel, like the farmer, he dosent have to pay taxes on his fuel ----possibly the trucking industry pays 2.25 a gallon for fuel, and rv,ers and pleasure vehicles pay 3.50 a gallon.

this way the consumer dosent get raped and you can depend on a constant supply of fuel at a reasonable rate.

    Anyone one else got ideas---?????/

I took 10 weeks off because of fuel and "engine work" hoping fuel would come down. But it is higher now ! The industry has to stop , for at least a week for anyone to actually notice ! And a month to really make an IMPACT !!!!

Fuel surcharge helps , but the amount of fuel surcharge you get is the amount that you are losing ! It only covers half the increase ! You lose the other half !!!!! How much more cuts in pay can we stand ? I'm down to $0.50 cents a mile !!!!!!

I contract by the mile. So, I don't see the actual rates no more . But there should be FULL disclosure of rates !!! My company may not be losing money , just me . They may have gone up on rates but not passed it along to me . We need Full disclosure of the rates and who gets what . THE LITTLE MAN ALWAYS LOSES !

The cost of shipping should be on the bill of laden , in large bold numbers for all to see ! How big of a piece of that pie are you getting ? A couple of hundred for a thousand dollar load ?

Hey, you might not be arrested for shutting down, but then if you have a shutdown, you have to pick leaders who will talk for you---these are the guys who will get arrested and harrased especially if they are independents---

been there, done that--------you do what you want, im too old for this stuff and im just making suggestions as to what has taken place in the past--i dont care much anymore, how many more years can you drive at 68??? Its not my future anymore, its yours---and you might as well think straight in order to survive-----------or the big companies will eat you alive...
