ok I have actually been wondering this for years but if your getting loaded and the people load too much weight on your truck who is responsible for that ? and also does moving the axles on the trailer change the weight somehow ?

well I do understand that you being the driver and all but it does seem unfair that if someone else loads your truck with what your papers say has been ordered or what not that you the driver would be fined for overloading it isn't like you tell them hey don't load that it is too much

The driver is responsible for everything...contact your company when a problem arises such as overweight, poorly loaded.

To the OP, the max weight you can haul generally is 80,000 pounds. Your truck and trailer together weigh about 33,000 pounds together.
WHen you get a load, it tells you how much weight is on there. BUT, you can't always trust it. If it says 26,000 and its really 40,000 pounds and you're over weight you are responsible. Generally, 12,500 on the steer, 34,000 combined on your drive axle, and 34,000 combined on your TWO trailer axles. Bottom line, you can not go over 80,000 pounds.

IF you think the load is heavy, or you're not sure, go to a truck stop and WEIGH your load. IF you are over weight an an axle, you slide your axles on the trailer. If you are still over weight, you go back to the shipper and they will either remove product from the trailer or reload it inside.

Hope fully this answers your questions a little better. But, YOU are responsible for being over weight. Go weigh your loads, and save your self.

If you move you axles (tandems set or slide your fifth wheel) it will change the location of the weight. It is how you balance the load to make sure each axle set is at or below legal limits.

But if you are overweight no amount of moving axles is going to change that. Run it and get away with it or get a big ticket is the bad choice. The good choice is to waste your hours going back to the shipper and have them take something off.

Actually I have told them many times "hey don't load that, it's too much". I know exactly how much weight my truck can handle at any fuel level. If I leave a shipper and scale the load and its overweight, ill turn around and go straight back and make them take a pallet or two off. I'm the one that has to pay the overweight fine and I have no problem telling a shipper that I'm not moving until they get it right.

cool so just look at the shipping papers and ad that weight to the weight of your truck and trailer if it is too much just have the take or not put a pallet or 2 off
