I made $90K my best year with FedEx freight, but I was miserable. I took the first chance I could to leave. Like I said, I want to want to go to work not dread going to work.

I have a career, it's called being a truck driver. it just took me a few years to figure out where I wanted to finish it.

I average around .54 a mile. I have really good benefits, including bonuses and profit sharing. See how easy that was? I shared details without being a braggart.

Who really cares what you think less than stellar wages are? What one person can live on may be different from what you can live on. I choose to live within my means. When I took this job, I had to adjust my living standards. But I did so , because I found a really good job that I enjoy doing.

The fact that you make a conscious effort to post in bold text tells a lot about you. You make a concerted effort to say, look at me.

I make $20.40 a hour for driving and $12 for anything on line 4. I've found my stress level has gone down a lot now because I'm paid no matter what I'm doing. Before when I was percentage or mileage I would get irritated and all worked up if I had to sit because sitting = no money making. Plus there was way too much " off the book work" being done. Washing out, dropping/hooking trailers, driving to next loads. I was basically working for free 50% of the time.

Yes, I've worked hourly jobs. Traffic jams take on a new meaning when you're paid hourly.

I also believe it to be illegal. Not that it would matter to some.

The problem is the new guys have this sense of entitlement. They talk to a guy in the company that's been there for 15 years making .50 a mile so they sign up and are shocked to find that they are only gonna get .30. They think that since they are doing the same thing as the veteran they should be paid the same. When that doesn't happen they get mad and quit. Hence why the trucking industry has over a 100% turnover rate. Gotta put the time in if ya want the big bucks. Most companies I see now don't care about your past experience it's now based on TIME WITH THE COMPANY. So you could have 50 years experience and still be paid less than a guy with a year experience just because he's been with the company longer.

I don't think that's why there is a 100%+ turnover rate. I think it's because newbies start at .30 and two million milers make .42 and getting the same hometime, driving the same truck, getting the same detention pay, getting the same terrible deal. Most companies with huge turnover rates have one thing in common, after three years with the company NOTHING GETS BETTER. You are already topped out on everything and nothing will improve from now on. You might get some stupid stickers and maybe a jacket with your name on it, but any more money or consideration? Forget about it. That's why they are starter companies. Nobody ever says, man you should stick it out with Swift, after 10 years they pay you .55 per mile and they turn your truck up to 75!
