I drive a International ProStar, dual ant, run a Cobra 29ltdwx.
The Wilson 2000 is installed drivers side, factory antenna passenger side (both are good). My question is what is the best setup?
Do away with the dual and just run the Wilson, which I would not want to do because I don't think Ill be in this truck for long, or better ant, passenger side?
Swr is high now, but when I had it passenger side and NO antenna drivers side it was running low, no ant. light showing on radio.
Appreciate your help I am not great with radios but wont drive without one, despite what everyone says I have received, given and met friends on my route because of it!

Your wilson would be great performer if you ran separate coax to it.... SWR meter it and you'll out talk your ears.

Plus, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe many/most of the newer truck built-in dual coax setups use one antenna for the CB and the other for AM/FM/TV and run thru a multiplexer, which also sorts out the CB and am/fm/tv signals.
In any case, you won't get a quality connection by using factory coax setup. I always run my own coax to my (current) single antenna.
ProStars, I believe, also often have a problem with a good grounding, both electrical and counterpoise (ground plane).
YMMV, but if you get high SWR running single, check and/or correct these 2 items.darthanubis Thanks this. -
Here's the other problem I've found when I was running a Prostar. Like most company trucks waiting for a driver assignment, they sit. And unless there is a antenna still screwed into the connector, guess what happens everytime it rains?
All that moisture goes straight down into the coax just like a funnel. When I had mine re-wired, the tech called me out to have a look. Sure enough, when he disconnected the coax and opened it up, water began to exit.
It's not only about the factory coax being sub par, but out of sight, out of mind episodes such as this, we're sometimes not even aware of.

The prostars have a seperate antenna for the am/fm. They do have a very big problem with the mirrors not having a good ground to the body. I ran a seperate ground wire from the mirror bracket to the body, fishing it thru the mirror tube, along with a new coax. Went to the cb shop, had a new connector installed on the coax, tuned the Wilson 2000 antenna. She hears really good, and sure is a talker, kinda like the little woman.!!! I agree with everyone on using just 1 antenna, you can't hear or talk much better with 2. I'm running a Connex 4600 turbo, single Wilson 2000 antenna, and some coax I got from the cb shop. Coax is supposed to be the good stuff, but IDK for sure. It's got a copper twisted center core, and looks to be copper braided around the next layer, and a clear plastic/rubber outside. But like I said, she can hear good, and talk good to.

Most of the new trucks have grounding issues and electrical bs...They build cheaply supplied trucks..Nothing lasts or is built like it was even back as far as early 2000's..

See you forget that most of the radios on the market are just junk, there is little new engineering that goes into the design, most of the advancements outside of microprocessors and blue tooth has taken place in the 60's not recently and even if you have that $400 radio with mosfets in it, does not mean it is anywhere near cutting edge engineering.Ed G Thanks this. -
How do you wire cb in on 2014 pro star which wire on plug in truck is hot and which one ground

Plug has green wire and white

On Prostars the green is hot/positive. The white is ground.
Tho I'm correct on the above info, I'd use a voltmeter to make sure beforehand.
You can also test it by temporarily running a ground jumper to your CB ground, then attach either green or white to the CB hot/+ lead.
The one that lights up the CB will then be the hot.
