I spoke with a sales rep at Freightliner of Hartford (Hartford, CT) and they did confirm that Freightliner has been offering the Argosy's as a glider kit for some years now but very few carriers in the US has taken interest in them. Continuing in the conversation, the salesman noted that they have sold a few 2014's to a carrier in Canada with long wheelbase because conventional's wheelbase max for Canada is 244 so the Argosy with the same wheelbase or somewhat shorter would be a perfect for their operations. Freightliner is offering the Argosy as Glider Kits for US operations but a few carriers has taken interest in them for various absurd reasons. In case if anyone is wondering what a Argosy Glider Kit are going for in pricing, they are in the $120k range (could be more could be less depending on customer spec's), just like any other Freightliner Glider Kit you'll get a Detroit Pre-Emission Series 60 w/ 500HP, 10 spd transmission (other are available) 3yr/300k mile warranty, NO DPF, NO DEF and best of all you still accomplish fuel economy.

I did a lot of repowers, you can not put and an engine in a truck in Canada that is not compliant with the body year of the truck. Gliders are registered as a new truck, it needs a new engine compliant with that year.
Just a thought! -
TX silver eagle, I would like your salesman's name and number in Hartford CT,
I have also inquired about buying Argosy Gliders and was told by two different dealers that you can NOT buy them in the states. Now, I HAVE seen a couple of different companies running them, and when I talked to the drivers they said they were bought in Canada and then "sold" to the states.
Also, you can NOT buy a glider from "Freightliner" with a tranny, you CAN buy a "powered" glider which means you can get a truck with front axle and motor, YOU install the tranny and rears, OR you can buy a "rolling" glider which gets you front axles, rear axles, YOU install the tranny and motor.
YOU must have, or present at least TWO of the three components, either motor and tranny or tranny and rear, anyone that is buying a "complete" truck is either getting it from an outfitter (Fitzgerald) OR the Freightliner dealer may be finishing the truck, but you can't buy a completed running glider directly from Freightliner. -

This is a 2014 Freightliner Argosy Glider that Wagner Transportation based out Idaho had acquired. I went directly to their website (which they are a authorized Wilson Trailer Dealer) and their the truck was pictured with a cattle wagon.

KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
In 2012, I seen a brand new argosy drive by in OH. Freightliner does offer those trucks as a glider kit truck.

I would love to know where, as I had both Grand Island Neb, and Kansas Truck Center BOTH check into it and they both told me no way, also, THEY BOTH order and build Gliders, so it isn't just them being not familiar with the program.double yellow Thanks this. -
I just updated my previous post from earlier so that you guys can see what I saw.
Also, Freightliner/Western Star Corp does offer Argosy, Columbia, M2-Business Class, Coronado, 4900EX, 4900SA, and one other Western Star model as glider kits BUT it's at the dealers discretion whether they would participate in the sale. Houston Freightliner does not even want entertain the idea of a customer wanting to purchase a glider kit, they would rather sell you a new truck versus a glider. They would talk you out of it rather than identify the benefits and it's not just them, it's other dealers as well within the the Freightliner/Western Star brand that doesn't promote glider kits.
Just food for thought.
As a reminder, any interested person's who's interested in a Freightliner Argosy glider, I'm awaiting a response (pricing) from a sales rep and would like to share the information with you. I will try to post on here or ask for you guys to PM to share the information with you.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
