Alright. So I'm looking to relocate a bit closer to Denver, and my current employer keeps blowing smoke up my orifice when I inquire about a transfer, so I've decided to look elsewhere.
I'm currently employed as a heavy equipment mechanic with a road builder (and I was hoping to keep it that way... if I open the cab door to a truck I'm working on, and I get a gallon sized trucker bomb exploding on my shop floor, I'll ####### lose it). But, things are what they are.
So I went to Navajo Express, and the feedback there was positive. I went Friday, turned in my resume, talked with the shop manager. He said come back on Monday, for what I thought would be the "formal" interview. Instead, they send me across the street to go do a drug screen, then off to get a physical done. So, good news, right?
I know I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, and maybe I'm overthinking this, but I'm a pessimistic sort of person, and, while I'm happy at their eagerness to hire me, how do I explain this?
Okay, I've had jobs in the past where they were ready to hire me straight away, whether they'd hand me a set of keys and say to me, "You feel like working today, right? Get to it" or something like, "Well, run this front end loader and load trucks until we get you processed". But never with a "big" company... that's never happened so quickly for me before.
Should I take it as a sign of something bad, or am I just being overly cautious here? I mean, I get the impression I could be working there this Monday, and that just seems rather sudden for a big company in any capacity.
Anyone here worked for them in any capacity before? Feedback?

Safety record sucks !!
That is all I know about them.

Seems like you're hired! They're just covering themselves with the physical and drug screen since you probably have to road test a tractor every now and then.

I read an article online yesterday that basically said the shortage of techs in the industry out number the shortage of drivers. That to me says a lot about what your experiencing.
-
That's the impression I get, and it was a big deal to them that I had a CDL and experience behind it.. I'm just a bit weirded out to see a big company expedite the process this way. Right now, I work for Martin-Marietta Materials, and the length of time that took, you'd think they were going through Congress to get me hired on. And that's been my experience with large companies in general... Granite Construction, Lane Construction, Martin-Marietta Materials... I'm thrilled at getting the job, I'm just a little suspicious, I suppose. But, on the bright side, with a safety record like that, I'll be kept busy for sure!

Yes you will.
They have fast trucks.
-
Fast as in.... fast to fall apart? I can't remember ever having much of a problem passing them or a Digby truck, and my truck allowed me to go considerably faster than I actually drove it.
-
I drive for them and i cant say much in relation to the shop really. But i do prefer going to one of the other terminals for service. And we are set between 68 and 70 mph. The ratings for equipment violations is not the reason our overall rating sucks

Well, reckon we'll be finding out. I start tomorrow.
Navajo drivers... be prepared to grovel at my feet and make offerings of human sacrifice.
If you don't have a spare human to sacrifice, a simple, "Hey, how's it going, I'm XXXXX from TTR..." will suffice. I'm flexible that way. -
I looked at there scores and see why they hired you so quick, just remember, with scores like that you will have a bulls eye on your door from the D.O.T. Just my .02
