I could give a good reference for a school in Michigan and they have dorms for out of state students if you were to be interested.

You could give me information on it. However, I have a community college that has a trucking school that is just a 10 minute drive from my house. I would think it would make more sense for me to go there though. I am in their zone and would probably get a discounted local rate. Thank you for your interest though.

You don't get it, he can't fix himself because there is nothing to fix. He has a condition that causes his brain to work differently than most people. My daughter has the same condition and is just like him. Extremely intelligent, hyper focus, but has a hard time with social skills. She went into micro-biology research because it perfectly fits her strengths and no one really cares about her short comings.

    Hi bigdogpile,

    How are you?

Be thankful that these people want to work for a living and contribute to society; as in being taxpayers who pay into the federal, state, and county tax systems, along with contributing to social security and medicare.

You strike me as being a very hardworking person who takes your job very seriously. Why not welcome these individuals into trucking to also acquire and practice the very same traits that you currently have?

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Edward judging from all your post I wouldn't guess you to be antisocial,in fact you seem outgoing. But anyway in trucking you don't have a full blown interview. Its more like questions concerning your application that you may have not filled out .As long as you do your job and do it well, companies aren't going to say a thing about you being antisocial. Many in this field are antisocial and one of the reasons why they chose it.You don't have a lot of ppl do deal with.My last job a lot of drivers asked me why im so anti social well actually they said why am I so stuck up,lol.Told them im not I just don't like talking to ppl, lol. As long as you don't give your company and the customers you pick up and deliver to and attitude, you'll be fine.

First off, I think trucking would be a great choice for you. I have a disability that causes social situations to be difficult. Trucking isnt a bad career for people that like to be alone. I have a college degree in technical management. ( A cross between engineering and business) I would highly recommend for your long term goal you buy your own truck. Owning your own truck will allow you to use the business skills you've gained. I currently own one truck and plan to buy more.

As for Cdl cost. Shop around, many schools arn't much more then 3000. If you have a CDL and clean record, you have your choice of tons of companies. My fav starter company is TMC, but either way you have options. Also if you work hard its not uncommon to make 40+ in your first year.

As for interviews, many will ask a few questions over the phone, but most wont have a formal sit down interview. Trucking is one of the few industries that doesn't require an interview or resume inmost cases.

Trucking companies dont normally ask that BS stuff. You will get your CDL but you wont really learn to drive a truck. You will go to a company and they will train you how to really drive (you hope). That were the conditional comes in. If you cant drive worth a darn, then they do reserve the right to now hire you, but as long as you work hard and practice you will be fine. Most are kicked out for drug use,,,past accident or ticket they didn't disclose, inappropriate conduct while at training etc. You have to be a really bad driver for them not to continue to try and train you. What was difficult for me and might be for you, is training normally consist of 3-5 weeks living in a truck with a trainer.

I don't think you'll have much of a problem getting into this industry. I'm probably similar to you in some ways, and I haven't ran into any problems yet (but i'm still training)...

The one thing I wish I would have done differently - get my CDL before applying for jobs. Don't bother with company training.
