Whether Swift has cleaned up it's act or not was not the point of this thead. I mean, you folks are obviously free to write whatever you want, but my main point is the lunacy of the stuff I see them doing every do here. They have a huge terminal here, a lot of those trucks are coming in and out of Phoenix on a daily basis. I am not, of course, saying ALL Swift drivers are like some of the stuff I have written about their drivers, but I will say that there is a disproportionately large number of them making extremely dangerous maneuvers in Phoenix traffic. I mean, Knight also has a huge terminal here, but I don't see their drivers driving like that, or, for that matter, even Werner drivers. In fact, there are a lot of large terminals in west Phoenix for various trucking companies.
Now, I can sort of understand that some of this stuff is Swift drivers in training - they have at least 2 of those semis that I have seen driving around out there, they are clearly marked with "drivers in training" all over them. One of them has the trailer painted with pictures of bills, alleging the huge amount of money you are going to make if you go to work for Swift.
Well, probably most people aren't going to get rich off of trucking - though I do know a few old-timers that have their millions saved up - took them a lifetime of scratching and clawing to get it.
Regardless, I have seen even more Swift lunacy out there since I started this particular thread - some of their drivers seem to enjoy cutting off anyone and everyone with apparent impunity. I pretty much try to steer clear of Swift trucks whenever I see them, but that's not always possible. It just appears to me that they - take the lowest of the low when it comes to picking and choosing drivers, at least in some (if not many) cases. Like-some of these people, after observing them in traffic for a while, have no business holding ownership to a CDL license.

Though he may be in good standing on the boards, and be honorable and a all around great guy. I have found terminal managers in my experiences to be disconnected from their drivers and more concerned with bean counting and self preservation.
It's not the individuals at Swift that need to change , but how they operate that needs to change. They need to start acting like a real trucking company and not one that just trains drivers to work elsewhere or get out of trucking in disgust. -
sorry if I made your thread off topic...
What you see in Phoenix (I have been there 3 times in the past week) is because of the school.
Memphis School was shut down until further notice, so ALL the students Memphis had and all the Phoenix students are now all in school there. I dont know what Knight and Werner do, but Swift has those STUDENT DRIVERS clearly marked on all those trucks and trailers. Seeing and knowing that you should know that that guy has driven that truck less than a week and steer clear...BUT they have to learn somehow right?
I dont know that insides of why Swift will hire who they do, but like any company they need drivers. Sadly we hire alot of drivers that have no business in a rig, but out of those few we get some that can drive and do drive responsibly.
Here is some news you might enjoy though if it helps you sleep at night....In 2007 Swift grounded and sold off 1200 of their company trucks. 2008 projected to sell off 2800 company trucks. The plans on the table now is a projected 65% Owner Op / 45% Company driver fleet by the end of 2009. Maybe then when there are more O/O's out there that are alot more careful with their trucks because its there dime you guys will lay off us. Kinda sad though I spent 6 years on the military Special Ops dodging bullets and now I have to dodge 80,000 pound bullets from drivers with some sorta of grudge
And dont get me wrong....I dont LOVE Swift, im sure there are better and better paying companies out there, but in our case when you have a good thing going why screw it up? They have never done us wrong and we like it that way. I enjoy my time here and have no complaints.VinBea Thanks this. -
Well said Brad. Unfortunately the Swift comments will most likely never go away because people just like to put others down to make themselves "appear" better. Mature adults know how to get along and hold conversations without having to put others down.

t200ISx, do you drive to FL? I could have sworn I saw you if you did?
I think Swift has its perks like every other company you see. That is the bottom line. There is a driver here who told us that the flatbed division is holding the company up. I do not know if that is true or not, but with all that is going on, I tend to differ.

But - I just see this nonsense every day on the freeways here. These drivers just changing lanes without giving any kind of notice, cutting off cars, trucks, vans, whatever. They're usually going way slower than the traffic they just cut off, so whatever it is, is having to slam on their brakes. I'm on the freeways out here on and off all day long. I guess I just don't understand the driver of a big rig maneuvering his/her truck like that. Do they have no common sense? I also see them in the fast lanes - going 55 to 60 or even 65 mph when all the 4-wheeler traffic wants to go much faster than that. Are these self-made speed police? All I see it doing is continuing to give the truck-driver a bad image and a bad rap because of the actions of - I would hope - a very few.
BTW - totally off subject - I saw diesel at $4.40 per gallon at one place today, and $4.20 at two other places! Outrageous! -
I'm tired of hearing how SwiftQuit is 'cleaning its house'. Oh yeah? They still have over 150% turnover. This tells me they still have a lot of cleaning to do.
"Oh it's the drivers' fault. They're trouble-makers with attitudes." Well, Swifty hires these guys, so the real fault lies with the outfit.
Stay away from the 'Quit. -
Bottom line is to research a company prior to hiring. If they fit your needs, go with them. And the best source of information about a company is to talk to current employees. After all, so many here complain about how unfair the DAC report information is that trucking companies record about them. What makes this site any different? In fact, I would imagine the whole reason behind the beginning of this site was someone got ticked off about what they found a former company had put on their DAC report and figured this would be a great way to get back at them and any other company people want to complain about.
Let's put it this way, you and others have given your feelings about this and other companies so GIVE IT A REST. Quit hashing over the same old stuff. You didn't like them and your posts are available for all to see. So MOVE ON!
And by the way, as has been asked before and left unanswered, what is SwiftQuit? They were obviously good enough for you when you started off. -
well i am in trianing with swift. i have 2 weeks left. while ill agree there are alot of bad swift drivers who shouldnt be on the road. there are also alot of good drivers at swift. now in the last four weeks i have driven around 10,000 miles. ive seen alot allready. i seen a gordon truck do some stupid stuff the other day. ive seen all kinds of bad and good drivers. i tend to stay away from most swift terminals unless i have to use the bathrooms. all i hear from them is crying and ######## and #### every other word out of there mouths. trucking is what you make it. i try to drive as safe as i can. swifts hirings standards suck we all know it. ive seen some real scumbags at swift and with other companies. i tend to stay away from most drivers anywhere. because i like to stay to myself. most of these drivers have nothing intelligent to say. but being the biggest company out there with #### pay youll see why the turnover is so high. now if they would pay they would get drivers and not resort to the lowlifes they choose. just my opinion.

missed my whole point. SWIFT is a training company they make there money off the trianees like myself.
