I managed to log over the speed limit one day and told the company straight up about it. When you round to the nearest 15 minutes every time you start driving, those minutes can add up. Say you make 4 stops, 5 minutes before the quarter hour on the start of the run and 5 after when you stop. Sounds like about 40 minutes to me. My DSR said he was going to look over my logs and I told him before he even had a chance that he was going to find the "violations". He asked why, I explained, and he understood. I got a talk about logging it as you do it (which I was doing, and legally), but those logs were checked out by the DOT in the Level 3 inspection and no violations found. The sleeper berth thing kind of bugs me. I don't see why it matters if my co-driver is in the sleeper berth or in the front seat if he's awake either way. May be against the law, but so is leaving a flag out overnight if it's not properly lit. Perhaps they should add a 5th line for "Enjoying scenery".

(no, i'm not serious about that)

Im just waiting for my medical records to clear for dot physical ? Im ready to rock for Roehl. Who cares where the load takes you 200 or 2000, I still driving one of the biggest vehicles on the road, and thats cool. I have been a welder for over 25 years.. Now you want to talk about some crappy places to work, you should see most welding shops.!

Anyway, I was just wondering what do you think of the special pay they have for the veterans.? Yea or Nea ?

Me, I dont care when I get home, I get there when I get there. Its not going any place. I guess I will have it pretty good at Roehl. My wife is already retired, I just hope she doenst want to go with me often.lol. Yea if you havent guessed Im an older person, with no kids so lay overs and stuff like that are not that big of deal for me. I will turn it into a mini vacation, and they paid for the gas and furnished the vehicle for me to get there.
    I cant wait.
Do you think I should get some body piercing and tattoos too while im on the road ?

I dont think piercings or tattoos are a requirement--at least i hope not! :biggrin_2559: Good attitude there--the important thing is getting home safely and thats the best you can do. I always run legal but i think it takes too much thought to run illegal--kinda like covering up lies and I pretty much suck in that category. Good luck and Be safe! :biggrin_25517:

Unfortunately, he's pretty much right. That's just about how life is for the drivers that work for the bottom of the barrel companies.

... I have read from the beginning just today. My take is this. I did not gather the "Original Poster" was complaining to us or just whining either. I really appreciated the full letter he wrote, it was well written and detailed out. Maybe the president of Roehl will not get it or read it or throw it away after he begins to read it because it is too long. Who knows? We don't know do we? Maybe he will? Just maybe! And you know what? I applaud the "OP"s efforts. Think about anything that has ever changed in this country, from women's rights and black's on forward. Many efforts were started that did no good but others came behind and tried again over and over until something took hold that changed the whole scheme of things. My point is here > I believe more of us should do this very thing. Communicate our circumstances. We only hurt ourselves by not doing so.
... Look at it this way. Many of you criticize the "OP" for complaining. Just part of the job you say? Maybe but isn't that because we all allow it? So&so won't run illegal, let me raise my hand, I will do it and then another. I don't agree with strikes as most do or too much boycotting but we at least need to come together to stand up for what we believe in. Where would this country be today had someone not gone against the way things were before? Come on please.
... Give the man a break, he stated his opinion! So we would not do what he did? Is he wrong or are we just passive and lazy? He may not want to continue driving so he may not be worried about not having a truck driving job if that is what he has to do to keep it. Heck, I admire him for that. What if that president got 50 letters like that a day or a week. Do you think he will ignore all of them?
... Just my opinion like everybody elses. I am not downing anyone for how they feel. It is our right to feel the way we do. I just don't like seeing a man get bashed for comments when they were of his opinion. Did he ask anyone else to do the same?
... My last 2c <> Live and Let Live <> Peace Out

I dunno. The issues he had were all covered for me in EVO I. I'm glad for that, and I hope I don't have the experience he had when I get out of training.

I totally agree and I hope you don't have that experience. 50 more new employees might not have that experience but he(op) did. Not everyone remembers the same things from school, orientation, or by reading handbooks. I just took it like this, if I were a new employee I would expect more help from a company than what he got. Basically in my opinion that is the only justifiable reason that everyone does not get paid the same. New people with less experience always need more help than those with more experience and those that have been with a particular company for a longer period of time. In MY opinion, if you have 5 yrs experience with same company and you need just as much help and guidance as my newly employed self, then you are not worth the extra money they pay you. If that makes any sense and if not I apologize if I did not convey my thoughts in an appropiate manner. So I make a nomination that we kill this thread and go on! USF Glen Moore has offered me a job, Cypress has offered me a job, CT has offered me a job and Schneider has called to say they failed to call me sooner to offer me a job. I believe if I can find out today if all of my paperwork is good to go with USF, I will take their offer. If not I may take Cypress or Schneider offer. Anyway it appears that something good is happening for me and I wish everyone else the best. God Bless and Good luck!

Spot on Morris. Roehl had a reputation of fixing problems. That is why you see so many "good" posts about what a good company they are. Sad to say that I have born witness to many silly things that can be fixed, should be fixed, but instead are now ignored.

As I have said before I know some roehl managers read this site. to be honest they should be embarrassed.
