You have a big advantage over most people as you don't have a payment. If you can operate for a couple of months without a major problem, you should be able to put some more money in the bank. I hope you have a credit card just in case. If not, maybe you should get one. I carry a credit card for repairs . It gets paid off automatically every month. Plus, if you lease on to a company, you could set up a maintenance account. That way you have another way to access money if you need money on the road.
I started out with a new paid off truck , a credit card with a $20k line of credit, and 2 atm cards with 2 accounts equaling $35k in cash. I guess I am financially conservative. Oh, and the truck had extended warranties.
How did you get your truck?
Well that's a big relief. It does seem solid so far, even witj 860k miles. but all i've hauled is my empty flatbed. wish i had a mechanic friend who could give everything good look to put my paranoia to rest. the only problem i've noticed is my steering wheel starts shaking when i hit the top governed speed (67). and then suddenly it will run smooth. figured it was an allignment issue. not in a hurry to get it looked at until i know i have a paycheck on the way
Get your front wheels balanced either with some balancing powder (cheapest) or have them put on a balancing machine and attach weights (best) -
okay so my C15 is the MXS. thanks for the help everyone.

Step one ...Work your ##### off save every penny ...Don't get married(you will be married to a truck). If you do get married don't have kids. If you are married and have kids don't get divorced. Until you have a minimum of 25G saved up. Step 2 spend half on a truck (or down payment)and use half to operate on and pray you leased on to the right place, have no major break downs and work your ##### off. Step 3 Watch your truck like a hawk and treat like a baby. Repeat step one until you are debt free. Then if you really have balls buy a trailer get your own authority and insurance. I am still leased on and making head way. But #### it ...it ain't easy.
