How do you get to the store when your drive time is up? or if you are on a reset?

What many of them said. You have 14 hours total. 10.5 drive. Use on of the other hours or so and stop where it's convenient. At least one truck stop I used had a Goodwill store close by and that was a GOOD thing!

Once you been out here for awhile you just kinda know where the strategic locations of various goodies
    are stored...

As far as PC miles...you can do it...BUT...you must disconnect from the load ( company may not like this)...bobtail to do your business and return to the exact spot...my boss says if you do it ,include a receipt showing what you did as proof, since the DOT is auditing logs on an ongoing basis since we've gone to E logs.

Personally...I just pull into the Walmart lot...and walk in...keeping it simple..Walmart out west are truck friendly.

PC mile range is limited by most outfits

Actually you only have a 13.5 hour work day with 11 hours of drive time.

Does anybody else get nervous when they hear people telling rookies to pull into wal marts? I'm hoping the rookie is smart enough not to try to go in wal marts he/she's not familiar with during peak hours due to the limited amount of room. As well to watch out for those Keep big trucks out the parking lot low clearance things. Just a heads up.

Stop and do your shopping on your half hour break, get enough supplies to last you thru your reset. Then there is no way a company can ding you for going against some stupid rule that they have.

    All true.:)

A company can choose to go above and beyond federal law if they so desire, or on a more cynical note, if their insurance carrier tells them to.

    It can and does happen.

    Exactly right.

I go to Walmart several times a week during my 1/2 hour break.
I like fresh vegies and chicken and salmon and stuff for my dinners.
The half hour break provides just enough time to stock up, especially when faced with a 34.

And while not all of them allow overnight parking, you can find room to park at most of them for that limited time.
And if you don't find it at one, drive a bit more to the next one.

    Like someone said... trip planning.
The RM GPS has all the Wal-Mart's, and it is simple to find where they are along my route.

I don't the insurance tell them what to do. They instead tell them how they can get the lowest rate. Minor distinction maybe, minor discount I'm sure for silly things like that.

If going into Walmart, use sat maps to look at the parking lot, look for the truck entrence and park back by the dock, trust me it will keep you out of trouble

also you can use off duty drive with an empty trailer in the USA, in Canada you have to be bob tail and return to where you started

The OP did not clarify, are we talking about the LAW or a company RULE? The Law says you can use the truck the same as you would your car after work. For instance, if you are an O/O and drop your trailer in the company yard after 14 hours of work, you take your truck home for the night, do your 10 hours, then drive it back to THE SAME PLACE in the morning. If your company says they do not want you to do that, its a different story, but not illegal.
