in my calling around i found that most companies want your felony to be 10 years old, but there are companies in the oil fields that will hire felons and i am sure there are others.....seem to remember knight trucking out of nevada being felon friendly

Everyones doing background checks, federal requirement...Lots of 7 year background check companies out there

Best idea, oilfield brah....I went to Iron Horse trucking in NewTown ND, got trained, had a blast, gained valuable exp..

Hit the North Dakota craigslist transportation section...You will find what you are looking for, need to dig a little though...You have the worst climb tho, student, no exp, felonies...SO be patient, If you seek, you will find..

Guys like you are supposed to go get raped by swift or werner first!!! lol

All companies do background checks. There are several companies that hire felons, but don't provide CDL training. They require you to complete a CDL school first.

Your felony is 7 years old, so it shouldn't be a big problem. Apply to some companies that provide CDL training and maybe they will hire you; it's worth the time to do the applications. If not, the unemployment office may have a program for CDL school, some states do.

Try these, they may have online application:

    Swift Transportation
    Millis Transfer
    Midwest-Coast Transport

From my research, there are companies that do not hire felons, and one's who do. The one's that do hire felons, do it by case-to-case. I do not know first-hand, seeming how I am NOT a felon, but that is what I have seen. I guess it boils down to what your felony is; no, I am not asking what it is, I am just simply stating. Best of luck to you!

Keep in mind, people convicted of felonies, along with some misdemeanors, all too often are NOT allowed into Canada, including professional truck drivers making deliveries to and from the country. Canada has gotten very strict over who they let in either as visitors or immigrants.

If a truck driver has a record as a convicted felon or of certain misdemeanors, they would have to drive within the 48 state boundaries. From my understanding, PLENTY of companies do NOT go into Canada.

    Good luck to you!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Not all felonies are created equal. It depends on what your felony is. I am an ex felon. I can enter Canada with no problem. If your crime is a crime in Canada then you have a problem. All companies have access to your criminal conviction records as does everyone in the US. Unless you have had it expunged it is a public record.

The 10 year requirement that folks ask for can be figured many ways. I pick the earliest date and give them that. When were you arrested? That is usually a year or so earlier. Tell them the facts. It isn't like you can hide or change them. You can change your behavior this point forward. Don't do whatever you did again. And welcome to Trucking.
