Anyone having a hard time finding a chain tray?....

I finally broke down and bought chain racks after one of my tool bins broke-out from carrying chains and binders...Amongst other things.....

According to Merritt...They have only two distributors in SO-CAL and both don't have chain trays...

I looked into third parties and again...No one has chain trays....

    I could have one fabricated but....I'll have to buy a whole 4' X 8' X 1/4" plate....
By the time that's all done...We're looking at over $350...

Utility quoted me $150 for it from Merritt....5-7 days for delivery.....

So my only option is to order it from Utility in Denver and then pick it up from them....Since I run to Denver every week.....
    What a PITA......:biggrin_25516:

I mounted chain hangers and a full length tray on a merit rack several years ago, all aluminum. All parts were in stock at Beall in Portland Or (503) 737-2150. I cant remember the cost.

Merritt is easy to get into and out of here in Denver, it's just right off of I-76 on the west side past 88th. You can get a trailer in there no problem.

Merritt chain trays will not be 1/4 material.

I made some out of 1/8 diamond plate steel. Mounted the chain hangers low on the rack so you don't have to climb up on the truck to get to them. I carry 12 20' 3/8 chains and 12 boomers. Can post a pic when I get back out to my truck if you want.

Thanks for the feedback.....I called Utility in Henderson figuring that if they didn't have any in stock...Merritt was right across the street...The Parts guy told me to just call Merritt direct...

Which Utility Fontana said we couldn't buy direct....Well the good people at Merritt were all too happy to help....The parts guy said they had 150 in stock for my model of LSR....

So I'm picking one up next week....

Easy money , just find your self a good fab shop and they can make you all the chain trays you want! I make full length trays for about 150.00 plus the install. any shop can make them and they don't take that long to do If you can weld Alum its not that bad the worse part is fitting them

The reason that I made mine is because every dealer that I called wanted about $600 plus shipping for a chain tray. Also I checked with my local sheet metal shops to have one made and they were around $600 and 4 to 6 weeks before they could get one made. Where are you located dogcatcher I have another truck that I need to rig up with a tray and might want some aluminum ones to replace these steel ones that I made.
