This is a continuation of http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ice-for-choosing-second-trucking-company.html

Yes, it reads like a novel.

    But it's a true story . . .

In 2006, I ran for mayor of Branson West, Missouri and almost won. What I didn't know at the time was that the City of Branson West was actually a drug distribution center run by a mob boss out of Springfield, Mo. :glasses4:

In order to prevent me from participating in the next election, the Branson West city prosecutor began charging me with spurious crimes. For example, I was charged with "making a gun-like gesture." (I kid you not)

Next, I was charged with harassing my apartment manager . . . on the internet! (You know, I went over to her house and forced her to turn on her computer and read my website, right?)

Finally, on the eve of the next election I was arrested for an "assault" (touching a woman's hair) and held overnight while the chief of police rode around the city, telling everyone that I had been arrested. Then, they let me out the next day - the day of the election.

All of these charges were prosecuted in COUNTY court. In other words as THE STATE OF MISSOURI vs ME. No lawyer within a hundred mile radius, including all of the ambulance chasers in the yellow pages would take my case. Which resulted in me having to learn law and fight my own cases.

Well, I won all three.:hello1: Which truly angered the powers that be. :angry4: How dare me act like an able-bodied American! So TWO ADDITIONAL CHARGES were brought against me: Tampering with a Judicial Proceeding and Tampering with a Judicial Officer. Two Class C FELONIES with a total sentence of FOURTEEN YEARS! :evil3:

The drug criminals who controlled the Stone County, Missouri raised my bond to a level I couldn't afford to pay and kept me incarcerated for A YEAR AND FOUR MONTHS without a trial. [IMG] They finally had to release me because I had served the same amount of time as I would have, had I been convicted for a first offense.

A few months after I got out an acquaintance I met on the net, who also happened to be a trainer at CR England,:icon_jokercolor: called me up and suggested that I come to trucking school.

So began my ascent:Rocket: into trucking.

When things didn't work out with England, I enrolled with Roadmaster.

    NOW HERE'S THE MAIN POINT . . . :Trailer:

In order to get into England, Roadmaster and eventually Covenant Transport, I had to do some pretty creative writing to explain where I had spent the previous years of my life. :computer: :spam1:

Segue to me at Covenant applying for a hazmat endorsement. I knew that the sky could come crashing in on me when the TSA did the background check but I rolled the dice and applied.

Two weeks ago, when I inquired about the fact that my TSA clearance was a month behind schedule, the TSA investigator mentioned the two felony cases.:biggrin_2554:

It took another week of multiple conversations and pleading,:blob3: but I finally convinced the TSA that they had more clout than me and could force Stone County to tell the truth about those cases better than I ever could.

:glasses5:The TSA sent Stone County, Missouri a fax on their official letterhead and then - lo and behold- Stone County replied that they had filed a Notice of Nolle Prosequi on those cases (which I never received).

In case, you don't know what that is, :cya:it's the court's way of dropping my cases while exposing themselves to the least amount of danger of me suing them for malicious prosecution.

The criminals running Stone County, Missouri looked into the eyes of a Federal investigation and blinked.:naka: It's the opinion of everyone familiar with this case, that Stone County hurriedly backdated some paperwork to escape the heat.

After seven years of battling, I finally won - with the help of the Feds. And the trucking industry, for that matter. :headbang:

NOW HERE'S THE SIXTY-FOUR MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION:

I've won. Been found innocent of all charges. :angel5:

When I apply to trucking companies, can I tell them THE TRUTH?

:whdat:Can I tell them that between Aug 2010 and January 2012, I was locked up in jail without a conviction or even a trial!

Or do I have to hide from something that I've been absolutely vindicated on.:hiding:

    What's your opinion? :biggrin_25514:

Before or after excise tax is applied? :biggrin_25511:

Thank you. You're quite right. Very few win. I was able to because I'm single and don't have a family depending on me for support. Otherwise, I would have had to capitulate, which is what they count on.

I still need to know, though, what approach would YOU use in your applications to trucking companies?

Whatever you decide, when you apply, be sure not to include icons & animated gif's on your application.
Then they will know you are more serious about getting the job.

Works for Me. We need a lot of "out of the box" thinking. (When you can play with a Tractor, you can ride with Us) We don't do soccer Mom.

I'm faster, been here longer. Weight is relevant. Heavy Haul is where the $$$ are at. :)

I think you might have something there . . .
Perhaps when you talk about something other than icons and animated gifs I will know that you are more serious about answering the question I asked. :hello2:

    It's not over yet.

I think it's interesting that, unlike the other thread, so far not one person has addressed the subject of this thread: Telling the Truth.

I dunno, it's almost as if some people can't even handle talking about the truth, let alone living it.

    Strange.

Don't try to hide anything; a background check will find it anyway. There are a few companies that will hire you though. Fill out the applications honestly and don't volunteer information that isn't asked for.

As a felon whose conviction had a lot to do with the fact that I was at the time running for US Congress, I understand your story much better they you know.

You will be asked about your convictions. You were not convicted. You will be asked to provide a 10 year back ground. The time period you were locked up is Unemployed. You do not have to say, in Jail awaiting trial. You list it as unemployed and give them a letter or a phone number of someone who knows you were unemployed. That is, if you are ashamed of your time in Jail.

I am quite proud of my time in PRISON. I stood up for something I was correct on but I had to pay a price for it. I got a chance to see what prison is like. Boring. I believe all politicians need to spend some time in prison to understand just what passing some of these stupid laws do to the families of those who are arrested. Lord knows the prisoners do suffer nearly like the families.

So, use your own judgement. Tell them or not. They are only looking to see where you were. If you get your Haz mat and TWIC card and you will, no problem. I even have my Fast cards.

You will also find that knowing how to make a shiv out of just about anything around a truck could come in handy.

Oh, COUNT TIME, I have to stand up by the door.
