Trying to remove the axle shafts on an 07 9200i. Pass. Side was a pita. The "tappets" between the but and shaft didn't want come free. Finally figured out they were "threaded".(?) Never seen that before. A can of pb and a worn out punch and hammer later it came apart. Drivers side, not so lucky. I'm destroying them trying to free them. Is there a secret to this style? Or any helpful ideas? Thanks.

Glad you're ok! Sitting there with a busted truck is a sick feeling hopefully it doesn't take long to get that knuckle repaired or replaced. And Pray to GOD the rookies company gets him off the road before he kills someone! I think I'd be going after his company for lost wages, its not as if they didn't already have an indication he cant drive.
WTF!!!! How did this post get in this thread??? Mods, your site is doing weird crap..againLast edited: Jan 28, 2014

I've hit it pretty dam hard. But the tappets literally have threads. At least the pass side did. I'll try it again tomorrow.

I doubt that they have threads. They are probably aluminum and have just taken the shape of the threads when installed. I had a Mack with Eaton axles that looked like they had threads when I got them apart. I remove them as I would any other, a big sledgehammer and a lot of swinging.
-
Well they probably didn't come with threads, but they didn't just slide off or bk on, had to vice grip and bk em all the way off the stud. Drivers side still isn't apart yet. Its being a Mofo.haha.

Just keep smacking it with the sledge, they will come off.

Finally got it all done. Arms about worn out. After repeated hits to the axle and punch blows counterclockwise, they came turned off. What a p.I.t.a.
