big cam 400 cummins tricks

    fixing to takeon a restoration project that will likely be powered by the old 400bigcam motor,anyone know of any things i can do to hop it up it seems like ive heard you can do some stuff to realy make theese things run.any input would be helpful

    I would siupply an answer, but I have already been beaten to the correct one. The people for Cummins power are the guys in Pittsburgh. they can do more with a Cummins than anyone I know of.

    thanks guys i will check it out.all the guys i run with have the yellow fever but i think the old 400 is a good motor.i know its not the 550 cat but its been a prety reliable motor in trucks ive had in the past.id love to find a beefed up kta,man those are stout

    Those Pittsburg guys can build an old Big Cam 400 to where it will not only run with those "five fifty kitties" but will leave them behind.:biggrin_25523:

    They have turned KTA engines into 1200 hp monsters. That's one way to "skin a cat".

    this place here in town sold a sweet old kw that had a kta 600 in it for around 20 grand.the guy said the guys bought the truck for the motor only,they were pulling it out and parting out the tractor

    Just get a yellow one and call it a day, i have yet to come across a "come-apart" that i havent blown it doors off. Then again my "five fifty kitty" is more of a "not so stock kitty" :biggrin_25523:

    Just like Burky and Packrat have mentioned, Diesel Injection of Pgh can build some real monsters.
    And 550W9, I'm sure your Kitty ain't stock, but they have built some 700+ hp BCs; one was up around 900 hp (If my memory serves).
