Do you mind other drivers idling next you at the truck stop

Nope, do not mind at all, trucks have been idling for years just part of the job, I probably won't hear yours idling, or your obnoxiously loud APU starting and stopping because my truck will be idling high enough to drown out the noise.

 

The only thing that bothers me sometimes is if someone is next to me with an APU that's not maintained putting out a lot of noxious fumes.

 

I own a hotshot truck, 3500 pickup with 40ft gooseneck. It's my fuel/engine wear so I never idle the truck...I've slept down to 10 degrees in the sleeping bag. So, when it's over 40 degrees and I see see all these trucks idling it baffles me. My little pickup isn't insulated like a big truck so I always pull into a parking spot, the blow off valves are incredibly loud in the middle of the night and I can't sleep through it. I prefer it to be quiet when I'm sleeping so yes idling annoys this guy. I realize the majority of guys out there aren't paying for the fuel but it adds up.

My favorite is when I'm clearly pulled into a spot for this reason and a guy pulls in next to me then fires up their APU right next to my door...so inconsiderate.

 

You do realize what you are doing is completely against hos relations right? There are minimum dimension requirements for a sleeper berth, plus a mattress. The back seat of your pick up doesn't count. I can't believe you havemy been caught yet.

 

I have a legal dimension mattress in my truck, the doors are cut out and I carry the paperwork to prove it. As long as I log Off Duty at night it's legal, thanks though.

 

If you can not log sleeper berth time as off duty.

 

Wooly was paying tribute to all of those guys who tell stories at the truck stop about espionage, and Seal Team 6 and all that other stuff they learned from Tom Clancy. You know the type...they own a mansion in Rio, got a harem of exotic women wanting to play skin flute, Bill Gates money, part time neurosurgeon, yet they drive a truck.

I liked hearing the stories about drivers liberating the girls at Teasers at exit 126 on 40 in Tennessee from their underwear. Then when I learned those girls danced totally nude I realized they were telling ######## stories.

 

so you do not think that they too pull into that spot next to you so that they can park and run their apu? most companies force the apu on drivers and many o/o's go to the expense of installing one. they save fuel as opposed to the truck idling.

what about the fact that their truck is longer than yours and they are limited as to the point they set the brakes. as opposed to crying,start your overlength "hotshot" and move forward or back and get their apu away from your door. I do not have an apu and LOVE to idle when i desire to or even have to and rest assured,whether it is next to your door or not,i will idle.

are all "hotshot" drivers so arrogant?

 

Im just guessing he doesn't realized that backing a big truck when you are dead tired, and can't even spell your own name, is very difficult. Or that some people in that condition will pull into spots so they don't have to back and have the possibility of doing anything stupid.
