I was brought up to know you guys as "Shag Driver"...in Iowa any way.
For the most part, I have always had decent interaction with Shag Drivers---approach them with respect and kindness, and you get the same in return. A Shag Driver can make your day SO much easier....so pissing them off is a foolish thing to do.
Of course any where you go, you're gonna have that "one guy" with an attitude...but that's the same with drivers as well.
I would just ask please; do not zero-radius turn a loaded trailer on pavement....blow out a tire....and then not own up to it, and leave it for the driver to deal with on a "just in time" load. I HATE that. I will crank a trailer from underneath EVERY TIME (due to too close to other trailer)---but don't be blowing tires. Never, ever ONCE got a "Shag Driver" to admit they blew the tire. I freaking know better when it is just a seal on the bead.

And yes, thats how I approach drivers. If you're polite to me, I'm polite right back. For example if someone is trying to drop their trailer in the wrong row, I'll ask nicely for them to move and direct them where it goes. If they are rude to me or get an attitude, I usually will try to avoid confrontation, I've found it works a lot better just to inform the shipping office who will just refuse paperwork to someone until they do what we asked. -
Do Yard dogs get paid better then the average company trk drivers?
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Of course, with this I'm working 5 days a week (with 4 months working 6 days) at 8 hour shifts. So I'm home everyday and usually have a weekend.
Some places pay less and some places pay more, just depends.pattyj and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
I met a guy at a glass house that stated he got paid per trailer he moved. He was a nice guy so I would always either drop it and let him put it in a door. Or put it in a door and let him write it down as if he did. He slid the tandems for every preloaded trailer as we'll AND locked the pins back. How often do they get paid like this?
