I have two clock issues I'd love some help with.
The first one has to do with moving your truck while waiting on a dispatch. I had a two day wait in Alpharetta and the place I parked at didn't have any laundry facilities or food other than fried chicken and Mc D's. I moved a few miles down the road, parked and took care of all my business before returning to the TS. I immediately went back off the clock and edited my logs, but the fourteen hour still ticked down. Is there a way to freeze that or reset it if you are functioning in a non - work capacity?
The other situation relates to being out of hours and still needing to move. I had to leave a Love's for another TS because there was no parking left and I couldn't make my own space without blocking something. Can you freeze your clock or make some sort of "dry transit" mode so you don't go into violation? I don't like that drivers don't have an option to flex in that circumstance. What do the drivers do who take their trucks home?
Any eLog Tricks?

Ask your company, but be prepared to not like what they tell you.
Most will indicate that the truck was moved no matter what. How the company deals with it is what is really important.Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
It all depends on company policy and how they have the various parameters set in the system, and if they provide you with a "Line 5" (Driving-Off Duty) and allow reasonable usage of this.
Mine will not trip over to driving (leave sleeper or off duty) until either the vehicle has exceeded 25 MPH or 2 radius miles, whichever comes first. This allows me to wake up at 22:00, move to the dock, unload, return to the staging area and go back to bed without tripping the unit off of sleeper status.Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
Jade, I am no help to you, but I do wonder. The issues you described, are they a result of company or federal rules?

It will depend on the way your company has the parameters set up on their E-logs.All E-logs have a status called off-duty driving. Some companies allow this when not under load, others when bobtailing only and some some companies do not allow this status under any conditions. You will have to find out what your company's policy is.

Don't be afraid to ask your safety dept for any information they care to share. They did not put in eLogs to make you're life miserable or impossible. If you're suffering because of them, they are suffering. Ask them about a "Line 5" option and see what they say. Also, as you're moving around in big truck stops, put it in sleeper berth then move around some and see what it takes for it to move to driving.
The main thing all new guys have to learn first is that they will default to ON DUTY when parking, and NOT OFF DUTY (and will remain there until you change it)
Also, back to asking the safety dept about your concerns ... if you do forget and end up dinging yourself for 5 hours of on duty time and it was a simple case of forgetfulness or the screen did not accept your screen tap of Off Duty, call some the log dept the next day and explain what happened and they will typically correct this for you and send you the corrected log electronically. It is not in their best interest either to have you lose a bunch of potential future hours due to a simple mistake.Criminey Jade and peterd Thank this. -
i play with it all the time i will drive it when the system click me on driving i reset the system nd its keep me on off duty or on duty not driving this is how i save my driving time when im hanging out in traffic everyday 4 o clock on george washington bridge it's always a mess and i always play around with my log nd if dot get mad im sorry i don't know why the qualcomm didn't click me on driving

Can't stop the 14 hr clock...learn the parameters that your company has set...all are different.

I had a person who once told me, to log out of your trucks e-logs when you were doing something that might cause a problem. I would never, ever do that myself because I am a SUPER TRUCKER.

yeah we have line 5 too but safety doesn't advertise it. you have to go in and ask for it to be added/opened up on your truck so that it's available. that way they get to give you the admonition face to face on how it's only to be used bobtail, only for 30 minutes in any 24hr period, and never under dispatch or when attached to a trailer just to cover their ###. the real world operates a little differently though. it's been a lifesaver in some instances to avoid a violation even though safety will tell you it's better to take the violation than to drive line 5 when you shouldn't be. yeah, better for them. we can go 5 minutes at 35mph+ or a 1.7 mile radius before ours kicks over and then we have 1 minute to change the status back before it locks in and you're stuck with it. each company has theirs set up differently. learn what your parameters are and that's one way to work it to your advantage.
if your company allows line 5, go in and ask for it........it helps and can save you in those rare instances where you find yourself in a bad spot just to get you in the clear and parked.......just don't abuse it and use it only when absolutely necessary and you stay off the #### list.Criminey Jade Thanks this.
