I'm in Big Spring now. I bought a decent livable trailer for $2000 back in December(I needed to get a truck to pull it with for $4000).
I pay $400 for a space here in town. Seems kind of high, but it includes my utilities which in Dallas I was paying about $150 a month.
My rent in Dallas was $750. So a net gain of $6000 a year. Even if I just put all that in the bank, and ignored the increase in income, after 5 years that is the down payment on an average house in most markets.
Food and diesel isn't any more expensive and Amazon Prime can ship me basically anything I might want or need. -
Nice...
What type of job did you get and salary, if you don't mind telling? -
Starting pay is $15.50. I have no driving or oilfield experience. Even without OT I will be able to put away a pretty significant amount of cash.
Something people should keep in mind is that to increase your income X amount of dollars takes more than X number of hours * Your pay because of taxes but decreasing your expenses is 100% profit.llanogold Thanks this. -
I'm looking at wanting to haul crude. There are companies in western PA/OH I'm looking into to get experience then relocate to Texas.
As I'm looking to permanently relocate not just grab cash, but why not do both. Looking at everything and putting myself in the best position is the smart way to do it.Last edited: Feb 4, 2014

Anyone have information on how the average physical goes. I mean the work capacity tests not DOT. I was a powerlifter and can run 7mi @ 7m20s average.
I've got to have a couple of things taken care of as a result of gastric bypass, being 6'10" and over 500lb sucked...250lb is much better! But I want to make sure I'm at 100% capacity when taking the tests. -
IM from here , and I am renting a very nice place for half the going rate , half of one check a month goes towards all bills , the rest is saved

If you are not doing construction type work now the oilfield will kick your ### for a month or two. You'll be using muscles and bending in ways you are not used to. Until your "oilfield muscles" get used to working you'll be sore. Walking in heavy steel toe boots is way different unless you do it now. I even suggest start wearing them a few weeks before you start everyday.
another workout to start is stairs. I climb 20 foot tank stairs all day and that is something to get used to!
