Not slow for us. The work is out there for the "willing", it always has been. Of course willingness is just a part of it, you also have to be able to see it.

    $4,000 to $5,000 a week averaging over $2.00 a mile isn't what I would call free.

When I read that post I had to chuckle because I had just done the math on one of many Independent Owner Operators here. He ran 2200 miles and earned $4,725 for the week. Thats $2.14 a mile gross in equipment with a operating cost ranging somewhere between $0.65 and $0.85 per mile.

As I also chuckle that guys are doing multiple picks and drops and staying out for a full week, Now he gets to start all over next week five picks and five drops or is there more?

I moved a 16ft LTL last week was only 6,000lbs paid 2/mi that's the stuff you start with not the $.50/mi loads your use to.......but than again someone has to move that cheap stuff sounds like your just the man for the job!!

I would have have to disagree with your view as that being good. Firstly that's pitiful even as a straight through semi load let alone all the times you would stop to pick up and drop off LTL's plus the layovers as a hotshot. Also a hotshot truck isn't exactly a million mile truck. I think you would have a hard time replacing a new pickup every 2 years based on your miles for $0.65 to $0.85 per mile less all other expenses.
This type of trucking is only a good rate to everybody but the poor schmuck actually hauling the load but at least the shipper and broker / dispatcher will be making something as it's easier to replace a worn out phone than a truck! IMO.

    BAYOU Thanks this.

The funny thing is you never hear from the guys who drive for Gary backing him up saying the numbers he's throwing out are true. Must be a reason for that..

LOL, We have never started building a LTL load with a $0.50 per mile piece of freight. The majority of our starter LTL's are paying $1.00 to $1.50 per mile. Yes some of the stuff we do is multiple pick and drop usually all within 50/60 miles from where the Owner Operator has delivered. We moved a single piece of LTL recently that paid over $5.00 a mile. We've moved half trailer LTL loads that have paid as much as $8.00 a mile. They are very rare though. We also do a lot of light weight full loads for $2.00 and over per mile.

This $4,725 week I was talking about. Just to clarify. His first load was one pick and two drops in the same city, the second load was one pick, two drops in two city's maybe 40 miles apart. The third load was one pick, one drop. This Owner Operator just happened to be within 500 miles from his house all week. He also was able to stop by his house 3 maybe 4 times during that week. LOL

We loaded multiple trucks this morning alone, all at well over $2.00 per mile. Some are OTR, and some are in the 500 mile range.

Will we load on a $0.50 cpm partial on the trailer, absolutely, if it fits, and it's in route with a LTL load that we've already started building. It just kicks the rate per mile even higher. Who in their right mind would leave it sit there when they're already going that direction?
