Ask a Trainer - For New Hires and Potential Employees

I heard from One driver that 50 thousand is the norm the for rookies first yr or two.

 

Not trying to give a hollow answer but the amount you make in your first year depends a lot on you. If you manage your time well, run hard, aren't late to appointments etc. Then you should do pretty well. If you're spending all your time in the truckstops or show dispatch that they can't count on you to get where youre going on time then your not going to do nearly as well. Im out for 3-4 weeks and then I'm home for 4-5 days at a time. I realistically spend about 42 weeks of the year on the road. Some guys are out longer and some less, just depends on your individual needs.

 

The permit test wasn't that bad just study real good make sure you understand what your reading. The physical is just like taking a physical fir football during high school

 

Your schedule is what I was thinking about doing. Due to the fact I have a wife n three kids. Not trying to get in your biusness what's a rough estimate of yearly salary to run your schedule.

 

Without bonuses it's in the upper 40s. I have a wife and three kids as well and at times its tough. Its nice that driving pays me enough that she doesnt have to work and can stay home with our kids. Im lucky to have a wife who can handle everything while im gone. Trucking can be tough on a family at times. Not trying to discourage anyone, just full disclosure here.

 

I understand my wife is tough as nails lol. Ill be attending cartersville training institute I live about fifteen minutes from how often would I be passing through there. Or is that a tough call to say

 

Depends on how freight is running. I may see cartersville once a week for a month straight and then I may not see it at all for a month.

 

Thanks jicca you've been a lot of help to me. How often is it to see three to four thousand miles a week?

 

3k is a good target average. You wont get close to 4k solo very often. There's a thread on here for miles for the week if you want to check it out. The guys usually don't say if they're solo or have a student though.
