fred1234 sounds like youre doing something right. Theres always going to be someone doing better and someone worse, We all run our trucks how We see most advantageous.

Also looks to me like this is the never ending thread.

Good luck to all & Keep on Truckin'

    fred1234 Thanks this.

He may gross $3000 per week but after expenses then what? .$50 per mile just for fuel if he is doing good on fuel......insurance, tires, maint and the cost of the truck, How much do you really think will be left out of that $3000 then for drivers pay?

Well why don't everyone just ask for $5 a mile for every load? Then no one will be hauling "cheap freight".

    fred1234 Thanks this.

I get that, and higher, with 50% deadhead. One way freight. Day rate $1000, miles (one way) varies from 150-250 per run. Someone wants me to haul a load back from my delivery point? It will screw up the next day's profitable $1000 run. So they better cough up good money, or else I am not interested.

$30,000 net profit in 3 years time is good? I had a couple of years in a row about 10 years ago where, as a company driver, I banked $25,000 living on rice and beans. Didn't have a business to invest it back into either, that money was free and clear.

the truck had 908,000 when I got it. still running good, yes. truck now has just under 1.4 million miles. $14,000 is correct, my trailer cost almost the same. did the engine, air conditioner twice, air compressor, brakes, bearings(wheel), cambers, every single freakin air line, gas lines, put an espar heater in it, alternator, starter, turbo, king pins, 4 new batteries twice and I think that is most everything besides the basics and tires. when I bought it it had paperwork for trans and rear end work that hasn't been a problem since I got her.

Why not? I know you mean this in jest because it's obvious you think no-one pays rates like that on any length of haul. You wouldn't have to courage to ask nor the wits to know when you could get it. It's funny how guys who have never run a truck like to sit back and tell the world everything they know about it. You'll find out the hard way like many others before you, just how much fun and many riches are in low margin high volume trucking. Have fun with that one.
