There are quite a number of ways to get into oilfield trucking (with no experience) in the oil/gas patch. Yes, still lots of hiring going on at all levels. It's tough work with tough schedules, dirty environment, hard to impossible to find sensible living quarters, when you do, they will be very costly, but pays pretty good to start with no experience.
Google "oilfield truck driver midland odessa". Don't rule out beginning with some of the larger outfits like Schlumberger in less traditional positions that put you in/near trucks occasionally then getting a feel for the industry and see how you want to approach it from a potential career standpoint.hardworkinman Thanks this. -
Can't you just sleep in the truck and pay nothing for sleeping?

The way I understand it when you're not driving the truck someone else is. It's basically shift work. The trucks don't usually sit for 10 to 14 hours a day like in other forms of trucking.

After 5 days doing that work you will beg to get out of that truck and out of the dirt, dust and mud and for a few days.

I started out my trucking career in 1980 as an oil field truck driver. I just applied to all of the trucking companies until one of them hired me and gave me the training OJT. It was November in North Dakota and their experienced drivers were heading south for the winter. It's tough work, chaining up for mud, snow, ice and everything else that comes out there. You learn to drive in some of the most challenging situations imaginable and when you go home after shift, you will know that you have worked! There are many hazards out there, other drivers on substandard roads, snakes, scorpions, flammable liquids and poisonous gases not to mention the possibility of freezing to death in the cold. I did it when I was young and indestructible, wouldn't even consider it now that I'm not a young buck any more.

The Bakken Field will be busy for years. I've seen bedrooms rented for $450 a month 50 miles west of Minot...while $15 a day is cheaper than a motel 5 years ago you could have rented the whole house for that.
