I'll have to agree with u on this one.Yes you should trip plan and always account for anything.I give myself like an extra 2 hr window or more.Theres been times I had to be at receiver say 7 am im only 100 miles out but I would leave like 4 am to account for rush he traffic and incase any brk down.

Many times I would get fuel at the end of my shift because then it wouldn't bother me so much to have to wait for Mr.Molasses to finish.

Makes no effing difference. YOU DO NOT PARK ON THE FUEL ISLAND FOR ANY EFFING REASON!!!!!!!!!

If it effs up your "break", that is on YOU!!!!!!!!

God, I hate ignorant, lazy, brain dead truck drivers! (NOT you, Miles, the offending driver.)

She did plan 45 minutes for delays... she actually planned 3 hrs. However, again, thats not the point. Again, it doesn't matter if you have 45 minutes or 45 days to get to your destination, the point is some idiot was taking a 30 min break in the fuel island. HE is the one who needs a lesson in planning. Not mssjhawk. Because your point was "she needs to plan better", your point was useless advise in this situation.

WT --This would drive me nuts too. I get that, with the e-logs +company rules and not going over the whole 14 hr Nazi gestapo electronic clock thing -but is it possible these drivers dont understand the whole 30 minute rule and that it can float around before 8 hours is up?
Is it possible that they run all the way up to the 8 hour mark and shut down where ever they are ...tell me they are just that stupid and not just being A.......

Are things like this the standard now? i just dont seem to remember problems at the fuel island ..someone please tell me this isnt a problem at every fuel pump and the internet seems to make it look worse ?

I do not see people taking their 30 min breaks as such that I am aware of. However, I do see quite often, people going inside to pay for fuel, go to the rest room, shop & eat while parked in the fuel island.

If your doing more than going to a quickie bathroom break & paying for fuel, you need to pull out of the fuel island. If your going to be inside, longer than it would take the guy behind you to fuel.. you need to park outside of the fuel island.

But does it kick you into driving. As I understand it you can edit your time from on duty to off duty as needed just can't remove driving time. Or put yourself onto that elusive line 5

Actually my point is not useless, complaining on a internet forum about a every day occurrence is useless, learning how to avoid these situations is how you become a good driver, learning how to whine gets you nowhere in life.

And the title of the thread is "what would YOU have done" so I'm sharing the best way to go about it with out getting all bent out of shape.

For clarification, SNI's e-log will not kick you to on-duty or driving unless you move the truck 1 mile. No speed sensor either. I have, in the past, driven from my home to my parking spot to pick up my trailer. A distance of 1.2 miles and driven 60 mph and still sitting on line 4 once I got there.

Absolutely no excuse for sitting on the fuel island taking a 30 minute break. Beyond inconsiderate! Honestly if it had been me, I would have drug him out of the cab and wiped the parking lot with his ###! I can 100% agree with running in to grab a snack and a drink after a trip to the head, but anything else you should move the truck to a parking spot and walk back inside to do whatever you want.
