I'm 24 with less than one year "certifiable" experience. Been driving farm semi since I was 18 but I guess that doesn't count. ANYWAY! Progressive commercial Gets me for $14,582 a year with a $16,000 truck with comp/collision, $1,000,000 liability and $100,000 cargo and a 2014 unowned trailer valued at $20,000. You pay 20% down and 9% a month for 9 more months.

you guys are INSANE paying that much.............I hope you guys are NOT looking forward to working with brokers....If so, Good Luck.

I pay UNDER 10k per year......$5300 for truck/trailer.... another $1200 per year for Occupational/accident insurance..And another $3400 for health insurance......

If you guys are paying over !0,000 dollars just to cover your truck.......Your in a lot of trouble unfortunately..

What insurance company are you dealing with. I think the average is $10k/yr alone for the truck. Health insurance goes for around $12k/yr for a family of 4.

how long you've in business and with the same insurer?you have to compare oranges to oranges.no insurance company will touch a startup for $5300 a year.the reason why is that lot of new guys go out of business in the first six months of running under their own mc and sometimes they have claims that tops what they paid in those six months.insurance is a calculated risk so in order to have better odds the insurance companies have to charge so much to cover their risk.brokers are not the problem, people who dont know what they doing are the problem, transportation is like any other market based on supply and demand:more supply than demand prices go down, more demand than supply prices go up.if im in chicago i know theres more loads than trucks in any given day so im gonna be picky on what load to haul but if im in boston im gonna grab the first thing that cover my cost plus a little profit taking me back to a better area.the difference between 10k a 5k for insurance is only $20 a day if you running a 5 days a week that can be saved somewhere else in your opreation, slow down watch your idling, maintain your truck and few other things.

I'm with great west one of the best insurance companies out there. One thing I have that most don't is the fact I have unlimited mileage restrictions, I can go anywhere anytime. I'm a single truck owner operator I have a million policy $100,k cargo $86,000 in comp also have uninsured motorist, I have no tickets clean CSA score NO OOS and been in business eight years.....

I shopped every place I could find I had prices as much as $30,000 most prices ran between $15,-$18,000 and from what most insurance companies the days of me paying $5,800 a year are over (that's what I paid last year) don't bother me as long as everyone's insurance goes up with mine maybe it will start to drive all the cheap haulers out!

Welcome to what the new guy has to do to fight his way into the industry. Just asking, why not use a broker? Home every night and still pocketing $600 a week. That's figuring $360 a week for maintenance and company growth as well.
