The trailer had to have been reported stolen by one of the managers. There has to be a police report and then a NCIC entry to a Nationwide database that is accessible by all LEO. The officers get the stolen response from the stolen listings when checking the plate on the trailer or the trailer VIN.

I suggest you obtain a case number from the Sheriff's Office that arrested and released you. This report will list the case number for the ORIGINATING police report and the name of the person from the company who reported it stolen.

Provide copies of both reports to an attorney. You have a solid case for negligence against the company for not doing a better job to inventory and secure ownership and possession of their trailer at all times (5-W's... Who, What, When, WhY and WHERE IS GOING ON WITH EACH TRAILER OF THEIR COMPANY). The company has people assigned to management positions to make sure issues like this do not happen and they failed.

Your civil rights were violated when your liberty of freedom was seized by the peace officers performing their lawful duty based upon the negligence reported by the company.

False arrest, search and seizure of your person (detained, handcuffed, strip searched). No formal charges with a criminal warrant sworn and signed by a Magistrate Court judge have to be issued for you to have this case pursued.

It's a good thing the peace officers who confronted you were patient, professional, honest and not agressive. In some jurisdictions around the USA the cops would have thrown you on the ground and hurt you, to get you handcuffed.

The last thing a honest working man in this world needs, especially in a bad roadside weather while being stuck.... is to get arrested for something he didn't ####### do.

Take a job with another company and then file the law suit against the #######es.

Were you printed and picture taken? That would be an actual arrest for sure it you were.

Definitely get an attorney. That will be on your personal record, and after this you've lost the ability to enter Canada until your record is cleared (assuming you care to go there in the first place LOL). It could also affect future jobs as well if a company really wants to dig into your background.

As Merle Haggard sang, now you're a number, not a name. Assuming you held up the ole' number board.

The employees were detained or arrested it really matters not the did not go to court they were released without any criminal charges filed so no arrest record. I can only presume a reort of what happened was made or no report was made it really does not matter the have no record unless they were booked. It does not sound like it as they were released.

You got hand cuffed on the side of the road and taken to the local police station, kept a couple of hours and let go, free and clear. Was that embarrassing? Sure. But humiliation to the point of causing mental damage/anguish? it's not like they busted in at your kids soccer game/Christmas orchestra and hauled you off in front of all your friends and neighbors. Im not attacking you, just suggesting you should thicken that skin up some or when life really screws with you, you will have a very difficult time coping.

I know a guy that was handcuffed, put in the back of the squad car and taken to the police station. He was put in the cell and was considered arrested. NO CHARGES FILED, no court or fine. Released, told there was no record.

The next month tried to enter Canada with a load and had been going there for years. Denied entry because of the ARREST.
