I don't want to do this just for fuel. One cent is to close to "just for fuel." That's where I'm that though.

And to pull something like a nationwide strike off isnt going to happen by a girl on myspace.

Just out of curiosity, why does it matter if it's a girl or not?? At least she is spreading the word for us..at least she is standing up for something, unlike a lot of truckers I know that complain about fuel prices, freight rates etc. but say they won't shut down.

The theory behind it is correct for tax purposes. I don't work for those figures. We are working off projected figures to see what we have to spend to avoid giving the tax to the government.

LOL, yes I understand all to well. If you would have stated " for tax purposes" I wouldn't have posted. You can only claim a loss for so long. I believe after 5 years the IRS considers it a hobby. Am I correct me id I'm wrong.

I am finding all of the hoopla over a shutdown to be quite entertaining. I agree that the price of fuel is up, but you are making it sound like it is costing you $100 a gallon. Have you actually grabbed a napkin and a crayon and really looked at the true cost per mile increase?

I'd be very interested in hearing some hard numbers from everyone.

    1. What is your MPG?
    2. What is your cost of fuel per mile at $4.00/gal?
    3. What was your cost of fuel per mile at $3.00/gal?
    4. What was your average gross rate per mile in October 2007?
    5. What is your average gross rate per mile today?
Let's see if you can do it. I double dog dare you.

####, this 8th grade math magician aint even going to try that... And I really dough you'll get much outta the other guys.

The reality is look at what it cost to REFINE the FUEL?
JACK SQUAT! It's a BY product of REFINED PETROLEUM GASOLINE! AKA:pETRO!

The crap NEVER should have went above $2.00 Per Gallon! EVER in the first place.
the Government seen a way to UP the cost's and the oil companies and say it's in demand. Yeah Bull ####.. your telling me that the number of trucks on the roads today has TRIPLED since 1980? I think NOT!

We may have grown in our industry but NOT that much.

most all of us can remember paying $1.90.9 for fuel!
    HELL, I even remember that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY in 15 YEARS does a product do a QUAD in price?
    PROFIT!

WALLSTREET TYCOON's here is your wake up CALL!

Thanks for so eloquently confirming my point, the average steering wheel holder doesn't have a clue how to calculate their operating costs. Perhaps they also think that if diesel is selling for $4.00 a gallon, then the freight rates should be $3.00 per mile.

But I am curious about your extensive knowledge of the petroleum industry. Since many of us don't have a background in engineering, would you be kind enough to share with your fellow brotherhood where we could find the facts to support your statements about how diesel fuel is refined and the costs for refining? After all, we should all be educated about the facts to support the shutdown, correct?

By the way, commercial trucks are not the only ones who use diesel, so the number of trucks may or may not have increased, but there are a number of other types of vehicles and machines that use diesel.

You are finding fault with a BUSINESS making a profit? The oil companies are entitled to make a profit, just like any other business. Have you looked at the financial reports for the various oil companies to support your position of "The reality is look at what it cost to REFINE the FUEL?
JACK SQUAT! It's a BY product of REFINED PETROLEUM GASOLINE! AKA:pETRO!" (By the way, you should check your facts). And how much exactly is jack squat? The only affect the govenment has on the price of fuel is through TAXES. To suggest that they set the price is ludicrous.

So which is it? Did the price of fuel rise to an alarming level because of additional taxation? Or did the oil companies up their profit margins? And which one do you think has a chance of being affected long term?

You should be protesting at the shippers locations to increase the rates they pay. Crying because the price of fuel has increased is just a waste of a good tissue.

I pay 400 per day at 4 bucks and 300 per day at 3 bucks. that is a difference of 100 per day. who wants to just go and give 100 per day to rich people.
My fuel allouncence has only go up 24 per day so I am really giving 76 per day to the fat cats. more when it is 4 per gal. then I drive 7 days a week. so that is 532 per week less I have and More the rich fat cat has just from one person on one level. This is driving 600 miles per day.
