Do companies pay for trips back from Orientation?

Just a quick question. I've recently decided to go to Super Service for my first trucking job. Their orientation is in Grand Rapids MI, and I live in the western part of Maryland, so I'm going to be taking a greyhound. Since I have not driven a truck for nearly 9 months after getting my license, I'm just a little concerned about the road test ( I'm 21 years old ). I'm just wondering do companies usually pay for your bus ticket back home if you happen to fail the road test, because I'm very tight on cash at the moment....

I'm not worried about the physical and drug test because like I said, I'm 21 and in average shape and I've never done drugs a day in my life.

Call em up and see what they say. You might be a bit rusty but you should be ok on the driving test if its only 9 months.

I'm pretty sure they do but I would call SS just to make sure like madman suggested.

Usually they do not pay to get you back home... it is always wise to have a plan to get back home.. you never know what can happen out there..
I understand that funds are tight.. but, check with a family member or friends and have a plan for getting yourself back home.. by greyhound or a rental car, or something..

9 months is a long time for me because like I said, I'm 21. The only time I've driven a truck was in the driving school I went to, which I graduated in June.

I'll have to call my recruiter tomorrow and ask her. If they do not pay for trips back home, I'm not so sure I'll go....

even after 9 months your lucky to get a job at 21
most companies want you to be 23
you wait any longer you will need to spend money on a refresher course
and have wasted all the money you have already put out

They normally get you home. You should be okay with that.

The thing that really hurts is, if you are in a financial bind before you go to orientation, you're in a Do or Die situation. Failure isn't really an option. Lots of pressure on you. Usually the orientation driving test consists of you driving a really short road trip...they want to see if you can shift and remember your trailer when you make turns.

You already proven yourself obtaining a CDL. The biggest hurdle is surviving the long bus ride.

Call up your recruiter and ask him/her directly if you have a option ( bus ride home ) if a "family emergency" would occur or simply not impressed with the company and walk away without drama :biggrin_255:

Fake it till you make it. make that truck your *itch !

I would really check first and make sure they will pay for your way back home.. many drivers thought they would only to findout they are stranded...

Everyday there are hundreds of drivers complainjng that the companies do not care about them.. so why wojld theh care and be so kind to someone who already cost them a bus ticket, hotel and such and wont ever make a penny for them...

This is actually kind of unusual.. as usually I am the positive voice in a sea of negativism...

Yea I know, a lot of companies I've tried have had a 3 month or a 6 month cut off for recent driving school grads. Super Service doesn't have that. A few other companies also don't have that cutoff like I know one is CR England, but I've honestly never seen anything good about them.

I wanted to go to Western Express because they have a free refresher course, but then I found out they require you to be 22 years old so oh well.
