Wow, 9 hours before you unload? Well I guess for the 10 hour break I presume. I'm sure I'll get it all figured out in due time. I'm tired of being in this hotel room, I'm ready to hit the ground running. I was proud of my wife today though, didn't cry or anything I was afraid of, or at least I didn't see it. Think it made her feel better that I'll be home on Friday, and she's a little more focused on getting out of her parents house and building our new one, haha

so if u had an 8 am delivery on mon morning you would need to be there by 9 pm sunday night so you would have to head out around 10 am sunday morning esp if your parked close by at a truck stop that would give you an hour to get to where ur parked at to your delivery would that be correct and that would have to be under 600 miles form your hometown wouldn't it

Almost all if my Mon morning appts were at 7am. So, to get a 10-hour break by then, I needed to be shut down by 9pm on Sun. I'm not sure where the "9 hour" thing is coming into play, unless he's confusing 9pm with 9 hours. I remember during orientation & training they were big on "get where you're ting to deliver on Mon morning by 9pm Sun."

kev is my post 312 somewhat half way right ? on the time im taking into account that I didn't park at the receiver but a truck stop close by and the time it takes to get from the truck stop to receiver

There was a couple times that I had to leave real early on Sun to get to my mon morning delivery. I think the earliest I ever left on sun was around 12 noon to be in little rock by 9 pm.

My experience with MTL was they try to route you toward home when you're going for your Friday pickup, & home is on the way to the delivery point. Never had to drive anywhere close to 600 miles on a Sunday to get to my stop or to a nearby truck stop.

Well end of orientation day 3. I'm still here. I was very happy to get today out of the way. Stressed over that road test, didn't even get a refresher and straight to the road test. But it went fine, I got up through all the gears and back down without killing anyone. Then went back out for shift training, thought I did horrible, but the trainer said I did fine, said he was glad I thought I did horrible so I'll get better. I've never been to another trucking company before but from what I've read here, Mcelroy is top notch, if they don't care about you then they are very good at acting. Very pleased with my choice. However, this question is geared towards experienced drivers. How long til I feel good about my shifting skills, cause right now my butthole puckers shut when I start driving. I believe I've found the career I'm looking for but I just want to chill out, does it come with experience?

Griz,...told ya you'd be fine on the initial road test. The shift training you'll do basically every day thru next week will help a bunch. It'll get easier as you become more familiar with the truck, tach, etc. Congrats on making it thru that step. I know it's a load off your mind. All the best to ya!
