The truck stop dashcams are overpriced, and not good quality, but a few are 'OK', and they are easy to find.
I'd forget about any handheld video camera, and get a reasonable quality dashcam, that is reliable, and put a fairly large memory card in it. I don't worry about having GPS or gsensors in my dashcams. With the large card you have a few hours of video always on the card. If something happens, you just need to find it and save it. They just run all the time, loop, and if I need to save some video and can't stop the truck, I just turn them off or unplug that cam.
Make sure you also have either a cellphone with a decent camera, or a separate digital camera, also.
Do you drive with Camera's?

Now y'all leave the old guy alone. His mule team would get plum tuckered out if he tried haulin all them new fangledy gadgets you young whipper snappers tote around!
Ok but seriously. I've been looking at dash cams as well and would love to hear some reviews on actual brands.joseph1135 Thanks this. -
I did put in a 32 GB memory card to increase the loop time, it came with an 8 GB one.
EDIT: I should say it had one rear facing camera that we mounted on the passenger side mirror. Easier instructions would have been nice. While I had no problem's operating it, my husband ( who is not the most tech savey of people) had problems with it.Last edited: Mar 3, 2014

Is your truck pulled by horses..They cluter up your dash, that's a real lame excuse

What you are looking for is good low light performance, and that doesn't come cheap. -

Go Pro is the only way to go but are like 250-400,I got one at the local electronic store for 49.00 reg 89.00. 12 volt, motionsensing, takes up to a 32gig SD Card, etc. Why do you need to look out back,or down the sides. I've seen them at TA etc for up to 129.00 it works good

Are those Motorola brand you see at loves and t/a pretty much the same as go pro? -
Personally I try to do most of my driving at night, so the night ability or disability would be important. I'll have to do some more research on what works best

I used to mount my gopro on the windshield but the battery life is not too good and neither was the memory card I had with it. I should've thought of a better setup. I love dashcams.
