Regarding the issue of how to allow cars to merge onto the freeway when you are in the right lane, my theory is that if you are the predictable big object in the road then the cars will be able to work out whether they can speed up or slow down to merge. Stay at a steady speed AND have plenty of following distance BEFORE you approach the exit, that gives them the choice of being able to speed up without having to slam on the brakes to merge ahead of you if that is their option. In fact, having plenty of following distance in heavy traffic is a good thing whether you are in the right lane on a two lane freeway, or in the second lane (from the right) in a three or four lane freeway. Give room for the cars to move around you and be predictable.

Regarding the issue of road rage, it happens and the best thing is to avoid escalating it at all costs. If you get brake checked and rear end the culprit then chances are you are going to get an avoidable or get someone hurt.

Be predictable, have plenty of following distance, make room for other vehicles to maneuver around you. This will also help your fuel mileage if you aren't constantly romping on the accelerator and brakes trying to "protect the space" in front of you to avoid "getting cut off". It's amazing how much fuel you can save by traveling through heavy traffic by easing off on the throttle and going at a steady and predictable pace.

DMV workers are so inept, they would give my dog a DL to keep their job. My State paycheck makes me comfy. In some states, If you can open the door, get out of the parking lot, & back, you pass. Sad but true.

this is why in a major city and during bad traffic I take the 2nd lane as long as I can keep with the flow. you know your going to be in areas where trucks should take that lane when you see those signs over head stating "trucks ok" well I listen to those signs!

I travel in the LA area a lot and deal with bad traffic, bad merging etc, its just something you have to learn to deal with and it will never get better or go away. Do I get peed off at the idiot 4 wheelers who merge onto the interstate going 40? sure but I will slow down and keep safe before doing something stupid to keep my speed, losing a 10 seconds of drive time is better than sitting on the side of the road talking to the trooper about the accident you just had for several hours or even worse you killed someone in that tiny vehicle.

That's a common misperception. Here's your own state code:

I try to get in middle lane to in major cities. A prime example of what I mean is I-35 in TX the 96 mile stretch No trucks left lane. There is a lot of that going into Austin that is 3 lanes. If you're governed at 62-69 you are impeding that middle Lane and the flow of traffic. It gets so jammed up thru there throughout the day you don't really have much of a choice. People really can't drive in TX anyways that's why they have 3k+ deaths a year there.

Driving a truck that is 100 feet long @ +100,000# in congested areas is stressful but that's what some of us do for a living. You can do the best you can but @ some point the other guy has to understand the world does not revolve around them. I know it's a stupid concept. Had a Red sporty w/ a blonde @ the wheel try and merge at highway speeds in heavy traffic........It didn't work out for her. Stay in your lane.

gpsman. I believe that is speaking about intersections specifically and even though in a sense you could consider an onramp an intersection of sorts, I don't think it falls under that reg, wherever it came from. MERGING TRAFFIC HAS TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY. And even if you think of the freeway as an intersection, the vehicles that are already there are "in" the intersection so everyone coming on has to yield to them.

Did you read the rule? It clearly states "controlled by a yield right-of-way sign". Don't know about where you live but there aren't any "yield" signs out here on the highways I drive.
