I had one installed yesterday, volunteered.
Nick in the tractor shop let me look through the web interface and talked with me for about an hour. I am convinced that they are a good thing.
Prime will be installing camera's in its trucks. Just heard at Friday's Meeting....

There are three models they are testing. Mine is forward facing only, and uses the pre existing iteris camera.
IP, all they do is run a wire from your lane assist to the QC black box, simple plug and play, very few additional components. Takes about an hour for an instal. The actual Omnitracs interface unit model is irrelevant, all it needs is an empty port on the under bunk unit.
The camera itself records continuously, but overwrites itself in a loop every several seconds. When a critical event of one of several types is recorded, it tags the previous ten seconds of footage for permanent save and transmission, and keeps footage for a while after that, then it goes back about its business.
While recording video, it also records several other key bits of data: brake pressure, speed, location, g force, and more. All of it is used to ensure the liability risk of the driver and company are nil. -

My instructor tested On Guard... its now fleet wide
I tested elogs.... its now fleet wide.
Friend tested tire monitoring.... required on company trucks
In house made wheel covers.... still testing
Flatbed trailer skirts.... still testing (Flatbedders up in arms and I see their point)
Kohlr APUs were tested... that idea was scraped.
So who knows what direction they will go? -
So they trigger when QC detects an overspeed event? im all for the hard brake/impact/crash/high g load triggering, but for a over 62/65 mph trigger? #### off lol, theyre taking away our down hill runs, aka, the only place a prime truck can maintain the speed limit lol. seriously though, as long as they don't trigger till 75-80mph, and cant be remotely triggered, have at it.
