We couldn't drive today because of weather conditions, so it was just some slide shows and a couple videos. Got done at noon.
Meals: Had some fruit and a bagle for breakfast, Gyro and water for lunch. Dinner is yet to come, but I think I'll have the club sandwich and water.
Tomorrow is paperwork day, will have a conference call or two and find out who my OTR trainer will be and when I'm leaving. Will officially be an employee with Roehl.

It's going to be awhile before we get any maintenance/shop down there. They need to expand parking to the back first. No way could you get a 53 foot trailer out of that shop with bobtails in front and trailers, some tractor/trailer combo parked on the opposite side of the shop. Hey it still is a step up from our old location over in Irving. In really cold weather the toilet would freeze up at the old drop lot. There was no scanning station or any decent places to eat. At least we have toilets that work and showers.
-
Well, I'm glad they've made some improvements then. I'm not sure how maintenance is generally done, but you could always pull a bobtail in there at least. I asked the instructor today about the amount of trucks that are out there, he said a month ago, there was almost twice as many, so maybe things have changed some since you were last out there? I'm excited about actually becoming an employee tomorrow with Roehl. I realize though that I've only got a very small percentage of what it is to be a commercial truck driver. Anyway, safe travels to all of you!

No things have not changed since I was last there which was 4 weeks ago. I was at the old drop yard and the old, old drop yard over in Garland before that. Been around for a few years of transition. During the winter months I run out of the GP terminal and off and on out of there during the better weather months. Until they can do maintenance on all equipment they are not going to hire technicians and pay wages and benefits. Hope you get a decent trainer and can continue your progress into a driver. Put into effect and live by the Safe 7 and you will have a good foundation to build on.

Sorry, I haven't had any kind of opportunity to update things since I headed out with my trainer for my Phase 2 (OTR training).
Day 8: Last day of phase 1, just paperwork, covering some policies and guidelines and waiting on word for training assignments for phase 2. We went from 7am to about 2pm, then headed to the hotel. I got a call just a little after I arrived (2:12pm) telling me to be ready for my phase 2 trainer to pick me up around 5:30pm. Another student got a rental car and had to drive to Atlanta to meet her phase 2 trainer there.
Once he picked me up, he drove for about 2 hours and explained some things while he was driving as well as getting acquainted with each other. -
Day 9: First real day of phase 2 training. We started with me driving us out of the truck stop where we stayed over night. I drove for 330 miles and he took us the other 255 or so. We went from Anna, TX to Alton, IL. Dropped a trailer inbetween and picked up a live load.
Day 10: Shuffled around IL a bit going from Alton to Gary...drove 260 miles. -
Day 11: From IL to OH and then to IN. By this time my shifting has improved a lot, but still need to watch my mirrors a little more =P
Drove 388 miles.
Day 12: From IN to drop a load in IL, then picked up another and heaed to MI. Only drove 166 today =( -
Day 13: My trainer is headed for home time, so we linked up with another trainer (an o/o) at the terminal in Gary, IN. Drove from MI to OH, then to IN. Drove 342 miles today.
Day 14: A long day, even though it only came to 8 hrs total for my clock...remember don't burn your clock unless you have to =)
From IN to OH, then to St Louis, MO and finished the night out in IL. Drove 306 miles.
