So another transport company got behind on some of their loads and was CRYING loudly HELP, HELP.
We made an agreement with them that we would help all they wanted for $2000 a round trip. Did not matter what we hauled going or coming the agreement was ROUND TRIP.
Friday (3/28 ) was the first and only load that we'll haul. By the second time I talked to the guy I was beginning to smell a weasel. Every time I talked to the guy or the owner of the company I'm leased to talked to the guy and told me what he said I smelled a bigger and bigger weasel. Friday I loaded and ran the one way out. Saturday morning I unloaded and reloaded and ran back. The owner of this other company met me at the auction yesterday afternoon, where I unloaded and gave me a check................... round trip for $1655.
#### I hate when I'm right, especially when it cost me $345. I hate weasels.
Now most of us if we didn't agree to a price would state up front that we didn't like the price and wasn't going to pay it. Make another offer and see if the other guy will bite for that cheaper price. NOT agree to the price and once the job is done then pay what we think we owe.
That would be like pumping fuel in the truck, looking at the bill of $800 and going inside and handing the clerk $600 and telling them it was a pleasure doing business with you, I'll see you again when my tank is empty.

So where is the other 345?
Been better off to have stayed home. -
He paid what he wanted to. I knew he was going to do it from the second time I talked to him on the phone.
At $1600 I still made money, but not what I would have had the jack ### been honest. -
that sucks
his trailers have tires on em? -
I won't do vandalism.
What I will do is haul ONE more car for him and then hold the car ransom. I am not above that.
How ever I don't think that we'll ever load another ride for him. -
i was just thinkin swapping yer out for new....lol
i wouldnt even talk to him unless it was thru a lawyer at this point
wait....paper or verbal contract? -
Verbal good ole boys way of doing business.
My tires are probably newer than his. -
This kind of crap drives me absolutely nuts! We should be able to call the cops and make them sweat at the very least! Brick, this happend to me a few times in construction too. Turn in a bill for a job completed and get a check for less. When you call them on it they say "well I can't afford to pay that much", so what, I can afford to work for free? What about my costs? Like you, I didn't work for them again. It's stuff like this that keeps the law schools full of future thieves, I mean lawyers. Wait, isn't that redundant?

This kind of crap happens in TX all the time. Especially in the construction industry. You can go get a judgment in court, but collecting any money in this state is almost impossible. They can put their assets in kids or parents name or in home they live in and it can't be touched. Occasionally you hear about someone administering some prairie justice, but then they go to jail. Normally cleared by jury in court in small towns. In Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc probably looking at jail time or probation. One of the reasons this area has grown so dramatically. Idiots calling themselves contractors that are just bid takers and thieves.

I've ran into that crap several times with my Backhoe and welding truck both.I did a handrail job (as a sub to a general contractor) on a building a few years ago for a ratty contractor...this dude had a bunch of illegals on the job and just oozed slime when you talked to him but D&B checked out so I did the job.Billed him on site and before he paid he wanted me to sign a lien waver...NOT LIKELY,played this game before...then says send bill to his office...I didn't see any money but he sent me lien wavers three different times...I finally got pissed and went to the court house and put a mechanics lien on the multi million dollar property he was building and then called and left a message on his cell vm(he'd quit answering my calls and I knew if I went over there I'd be in jail).....About twenty minutes later (probably long enough to talk to his lawyer) he calls and wants to make a deal and he was sorry for the delay but they weren't releasing the funds to him and he was just fixing to call me to get me paid anyway and blah blah blah.....I made him bring CASH plus I added $550 onto his bill for time lost messing around at the court house, filing fees etc.He was PISSED and I laughed in his face all the way through it seeing as we were in public and I just prayed he would throw the first punch in front of impartial witnesses so I could stomp him.He knew what was up and paid me and when I left that parking lot I thought"Sometimes a guppy really does eat a shark. If a mechanics lien is an option in your state, you may want to use it everytime one of these greaseballs get in your pocket.
