So much incorrect information, it isn't funny.
I owned both, and they are in no way the same motor, in any shape or form.
6 individual heads vs 1.
Camshaft installed from the rear vs on top.
6 unit pumps vs injectors riding on the camshaft.
I could go on and on, but it should be obvious by now.
The MBE motors are good on fuel and VERY light. All HG issues should be well sorted by now. Try not to get a fleet truck, the "mechanics" there really know how to screw them up.

As has already been stated Two completely different Animals..
The MBE4000 was manufactured in BRAZIL, and used primarly as Bus engine.
The Series 60 was designed (& built) in the USA from a clean sheet of paper by DETCO prior the being bought by Freightliner/Benz..
The MBE4000 was fitted to freightliners/Sterlings, for (I believe) two main reasons.
1). when the series 60 went EGR they were 14 litre only..(IE; they dropped the 12.7 litre version). & they needed a lighter lower HP Motor to fill the (HUGE) void left by the 12.7s demise. it was also CHEAP. therefore they could put together Fleetspec poverty pack Trucks at a competitive price. Until the release of the new DD13/15 Engines.
2) there was also(I think) a loophole/ crack in the emission laws, that allowed them to sell MBE4000 powered trucks without EGR.Last edited: Mar 10, 2014

So where do I go to get parts for mbe4000? How expensive is it to work on vs other motors?

The best shop I know of for Daimler/Detroit/Mercedes is the Detroit engine shop at Altoona, IA near Des Moines, I'm sure there are others around.
I don't know about expense of parts versus others. -
Parts are no more expensive than any other motor, in my EXPERIENCE.
The loop hole was due to Daimler not bringing MBE to the table, until AFTER the agreement was signed for the first round of emission junk.
Can the admins make a rule about people not commenting, unless they KNOW what they are saying is even remotely correct? This thread is a prime example of "people" posting complete garbage, that could cost someone money if they were to carry on with the drivel. I am an admin on a Rover site, and if folks post bad information they get 3 warnings, then a permanent vacation! I know, it's not an the ideal world everywhere
