About 2 weeks ago I was in Springfield, MO for training with Prime but was sent home due to medical reasons. I currently have a prescription for Cymbalta and of course had to list it. They then required a fax from my doctor regarding my last visit which did mentioned some issues I had regarding drinking, this was more of me seeing a physican out of my concern. Now I have never had a DUI / DWI or anything criminal period, heck my last moving violation was in May of 2005. I am concerned that this may keep me out of trucking for good, when in fact I havent had a drink in over 2 months. Will this issue with Prime be on my DAC? Never had a CDL, was going through Prime to get it. Will I have to go through the same get sent home song and dance with another trucking company? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Those are some tough questions to answer with any certainty. I'm not familiar with Cymbalta and what red flags that may throw, but if it's a requirement for you and it's a concern for Prime, it's probably a concern for others. Hard to say what was the tipping point for Prime. Have you gotten a CDL and a certificate of completion from the "school" (Prime)?

I suppose if you go elsewhere showing Prime as a school trainer, some may ask what happened and it's hard to say what Prime may or may not say about their reasoning but I seriously doubt there is anything on your DAC that would be derogatory for you other then a "generic medical reasoning for no hire". Prime's standards are probably higher then others. Maybe look at Schneider and others. Tell them Prime let you go because of Cymbalta and see where that goes.

    Best regards.

No CDL yet, had passed all the permit tests was just waiting on the medical card from Prime which they never gave me, instead was sent home on Thursday of the first week. Thank the lord I was only 3 hours from home and drove myself. All I can figure right now is call a couple of other companies or a driving school and see what they say. Even got a report from a SAP (through Prime's suggestion ) and the SAP was confused because I've never had a violation.

You don't even have a CDL yet. Stop worrying about DAC reports and stay away from low life outfits like Crime Inc.

I really don't understand the bottom feeders' obsession with sleep apnea, prescription meds and lifting requirements when all they want are ignorant steering wheel holders that don't know any better. Any other sector of this industry worries more about overall experience and professional attitude. Something companies like Prime couldn't care less about.

They usually only put something on your DAC if you do something to disqualify yourself along the lines of a failed drug test or lying about your background. Medical problems don't make it to that level. You need to get in touch with your recruiter, and see what they need in order for you to get a second go around. Most of the time if they have a problem with a prescription, they'll want you to switch to something that isn't of concern, get a letter from your doctor indicating the change in treatment and see how it works for 30-days.

Be aware that random drug tests at Prime include testing for alcohol, and getting caught with any alcohol in your system at Prime is cause for dismissal.

He never made it that far. The "certificate of completion" is a CDL.

What exactly is this "Cymbalta" and what is it prescribed for you to do?

It is an anti-depressent, for me the best way to describe is that it keeps me darn mellow. Im a lot more roll with the punches with it. I see the problem, take a deep breath , and correct the problem. To IP, Prime wanted me to be alcohol free for a year ( how does one prove that? ) and complete a treatment program. Those could prove difficult without any income.

Im just speculating here but when you sign you paperwork for some of these companies there must be a form with really small print buried into a large block of text that say you are willing to relaes your entire medical history to the company. I wouldnt allow my entire medical history released to anyone. They are entititled to you driving history and criminal background, but those are also public records. But your medical history is protected unless you sign away that protection......Look up Hippa Regulations.......

There are health conditions that will preclude you from being able to drive and you would have to disclose those and pass a physical. But you shouldnt have to provide your entire medical history that could reveal private medical information that should be between just you and your doctor. The problem is that you most likely signed something that said it was ok for your entire medical file to be released.......
