I'm about to finish up my initial eight-month contract with CRST. When it's over, I'll be a newbie with eight months experience and a clean record (don't jinx it). I'll be hirable except for one little problem. Nobody hires from Detroit. I'm willing to travel wherever for work, but I can't relocate my family. Our roots are here (seven generations deep in my case) and we have a good life already built. Who hires in our area?

Quick search of CareerBuilder.com shows 340 truck driver jobs in the Detroit area, including Conway Freight and ABF Freight. Ryder Logistics has 102 truck driver positions. You are right, nobody hires from Detroit.

Are you close to Taylor, MI? If so, Watkins & Shepard has a terminal there. You're in their hiring area.

Any reason you aren't sticking with CRST longer? You are just now at the point where you can make decent money with them.Who is not hiring out of Detroit? Seems like that would be a good area to be based out of.
