Joe & Tow's new trucking adventures/ex GTI thread

Closing out my 2nd productive week with a trip from Osceola,IA to Dallas,TX total of 3,072 which would have been my 4th highest productive week out of 32 with GTI....hmmmm....again.....

 

Just finished first week after hometime had 2750 miles... decent miles since I didn't really work that hard..

so far I have only had 1 trip tp the west coast but everything I have been getting is to Texas then louisiana to Ohio and repeat. Every trip is 700+ to 1000 miles and another one comes as soon as I am empty.

I can't complain about that. I really like running the south and ohio is where I grew up so all is good.

I remember the key to making money with gordon was to get out west where every run was 700 to 1000 miles out there..midwest sucked with gordon... victor was right about the midwest crap but I'll never tell him ...lol

 

My first two weeks were just that. Lots of plans but very little mileage...and to place I had been a million times already. The difference was that my previous company paid percentage, not mileage, so what mattered was the number of loads, not the number of miles. I never quite made what I was making before.

But now I'm retired for at least a year, so I don't care.

 

I guess not everybody caught my humor in the 600mls per day. If I would only run 600mls in the 15hrs up North somebody would rip my ears off. It is usually about 3 to 3.5 days for the trip to Alaska from Washington.

 

They are growing and hired several new drivers. All the 379s are gone from the yard.

I have an irrational love for the north country.

 

The only difference between them and you Joseph, is that they are already there, and you're not.
You know how to pull a grade, and drive on ice. They only have ice for a few months a year, just like the rest of us.

They might be better than you, but its more about what you get used to.
Most of them would go into convulsions if they had to go into Chicago or LA during rush hour traffic.

 

You said it perfect. It is easy to drive up North. Yes, you will see 11% grades on pure ice, but it is usually cold enough that you can drive it like a dry road and the best there is hardly any traffic. The worst part for me is usually getting to the Canadian Border going up I-5 and then it is the drivers in Anchorage or Fairbanks. They drive like any 4 wheeler in most big cities.


I have done 5 month straight last year hauling produce from CA to WA and floral greens to CA from WA and my stress level was through the roof. Here it is the tight runs that get to me since some of the runs should be run by teams. They are legal, but there is not much room for delays and you know how trucking goes.
