I bet if we would do one run together and you saw it and had done it once you would be perfectly fine. The biggest worry for me was the border crossing and paperwork. Learning the road and reading the conditions will come with time, but common sense goes a long way. I think the biggest struggle for me are the Petropass card locks. Either I cannot get my card to swipe, no receipt or I screw up the sequence between main and satellite pump and it is not happy with me. Fort Nelson is my nemesis and one of those days I will just "accidentally" back over the card reader.

Comming off home time last week:
Dead head 233 miles 2550 loaded and $300 for the extra stops.

Heading for Yuma now (2045 miles).

Have to overnight in Eloy to get hours back to do the last 200 or so miles.

They want me to reload Fri/Sat and back to Cinci.

    Hanging in Tucumcari tonight.

Evidently Cummins has a turbo lag programmed into the ECM. What a difference after getting that set to 0.

It was at the area of where 192 and I-95 meet. He was backed in at what used to be a Shell Station but is now a space big enough to house a couple semi's. I pulled in and tried to get a truck number but couldn't.

You should visit, but if you do, go in winter. You should experience the long nights, cooler temperatures (HAH!), way fewer people - spelled T-O-U-R-I-S-T-S - and MUCH lower prices for everything than you'll find in the summer. And if you're lucky and get into the Bush, which you should try to do, with some good luck, you'll experience -50F temperatures. That kind of cold does strange things to vehicles of all kinds. Just make sure you visit the Chena Hot Springs outside Fairbanks when it's that cold. It will be one of the most surreal experiences you will ever have in your life...swimming at -50F is something to brag about with your kids and grandkids, trust me.

And you'll get to drive on packed ice and snow. It's fun. No...really.

It's not as bad as you would think driving to Alaska it's like any other day just a little colder. It's like vikingswen said best part about it is very little traffic for the most part.

Last time I drove up to Alaska was with a few buddies in August of 2006, from South Florida to Anchorage, by motorcycle. I did a total of 5500 miles in 30 days. My wife flew up and met me, I shipped the bike home, got on a cruise ship for 10 days, then flew home vowing I would never drive up there again, by bike, car and especially big truck.

Petropass card locks are a PAIN in most locations , also watch your bills I got charged for 300 Gallons of fuel at 2 different locations ( 200 + miles apart ) at the same time / date for same truck, took awhile to get it straightened out.

I've done it twice, both times in cars, once before the Alaskan Highway was totally paved (paving that road turned out to be a very bad, expensive idea) in winter and once after it was paved in summer. It is a very long drive both times. Traveling the Alaska Marine Highway is a much better way to get from the Lower 48 to Alaska after you've made the drive once.
