Yes I agree that alot of what is posted on here is probably not a good reflection of the entire industry. Most drivers are out there working hard and probably have no idea this message board exists or have the desire or energy to post on here if they have heard of it.
So there would be alot of drivers happy with their jobs and their companies no matter who they drive for.
Even my wife tells me I should probably stop reading so much here because it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth and she's afraid I'll get cold feet.
I've looked into a WIA grant and I am told the money is all gone.

I sure wish i could drive for this company but have to go to hell with swift first and pay the piper a year or so.

True. And if all drivers were whistling dixie with their supposedly great jobs, we wouldn't hear advice such as "go your own way on training." If companies were truly good and their drivers satisfied, going the company-training route would be a safe route that made sense. It'd be the only way, really.
I'm trying to piece together the threads that claim most companies are a bed of roses, yet also advise one to not take a chance on in-house training with them. If the outfits are so great, signing an indentured servitude contract wouldn't be a potential problem. -
if you read my post, ive said nothing negative about USX or any company for that matter, im just stating facts and observations that ANY other driver out there would say are real and probably have experienced themselves. this is a profession unlike any other.
I started with PTL and i quit because i was ignorant and made a snap judgement. I would go back there in a minute, but thats another story.
To the poster that said he's limited to JB Hunt, Swift, USX etc, you're right, thats the options you have when you start. but thats just to start. once you get that experience under your belt, the world is yours -
A recruiter called me about leasing a couple of my trucks with Xpress... He asid avg ppm is $0.96 and fuel surcharge is $0.44 on all miles, loaded and unloaded... 2,500 per week at least garanteed... no insurance premium to pay and home every 10 days for my drivers garanteed...
Sounds better than my current situation... any comments? -

How are you doing with US express? Are you getting the miles you need to make a living. I could have started last week but I want to make sure I am going to get enought miles to make it worth while.

I'm curious to hear more about US Xpress too. They have been one of the companies I have taken a long look at to go with once I get done with the school.

I personally have not seen a lot of miles with USX. thats not to say that some drivers out there dont get big miles. but the majority of USX drivers ive talked to have been getting 1800-2200 week, and quite a few weeks.....lower than that! so to answer ur question about miles, i would say keep looking at other companies. I should have researched more before coming onboard. even ask a recruiter and they will tell you they mainly have 'short, choppy' runs. So think about this. you get a 250 mile run, pays .37pm or so. it takes u 2 hrs at the shipper that morning to get loaded(which is not at all uncommon). drive 250miles, 4+ hrs. then get to deliver and it takes 2or more hrs to unload. at this point ur day is for the most part done. and YOU just got pay for 250miles in a day. THAT WONT PAY THE BILLS! are there companies out there better, sure, companies out there worse, absolutely. will 2 drivers from the SAME company tell the same story, not in a million years. all i can do is honestly tell you my side
