Been awhile since I weighed in. I'm still hauling crude oil but for a different outfit now. I was with Gemini Motor Transport but they were so mismanaged it was pathetic. Drivers left there in droves. It seems to be a turn style for crude haulers there. I did learn the ropes of crude hauling from them so I have to give them prop's for that. I now haul crude oil for Gibson's Energy. A much better run company. They have been in the crude oil business for a long time and do things right. I do miss the Wal Mart culture and benefits for sure. I see know that I probably had taken a lot for granted while working there. One gets numb to all the perks that Wal Mart offers to its driver group and its easy to forget where you came from and what's its like in the real world. Believe me, Wal Mart is not the real world. Their benefit offerings, stock options, 401K, safety bonuses, eqpt., etc. are all things I sorely miss. Im still hoping to be able to rehire after a year from my termination date. Have not heard back on that yet but I am in conversation with those who will make that decision. I do not know, at this time, if I would go back but will cross that bridge if I ever get to it. To those of you who work for Wal Mart, enjoy what you have! It truly is unique and special in the trucking industry. Do not take it for granted and get complacent. Life in the after Wal Mart world is very difficult to adjust to, as you can imagine, but I am doing the best I can for my family. Truck driving is truck driving, only the name on the eqpt is different and a few bucks, one way or the other. I and my families faith in God has been the biggest reason that we have been able to weather this life change. God saw my termination day before I ever got to it and his ways are higher than my ways and his thoughts are higher than my thoughts. Its a new chapter that we are in, in the book of life, and walking with the Lord is always the best way to get thru it. God bless you all and keep old gizmo in your thoughts and prayers! Blessings!

I heard that 3 drivers were fired out of the Midway dc, because upon checking their phone records, they were texting and driving. Can anyone confirm if this is actually true.

Sounds like typical driver's lounge bs to me.

I find it hard to believe Walmart would ask their driver's for their phone records out of the blue, and that the drivers would be dumb enough to go along with it.

Walmart is treading on some very shakey legal ground with this as well as some of their other policies. Until someone pushes the issue like the driver in the CA action nothing will change. The new Walmart is betting that the potential to make 100,000+ is enough to get the private fleet to look the other way and tolerate the policies and sadly its a good bet.

There is going to be an even bigger jump in retirements, not so much because of these policies just old guys ready to hang it up. Most of the older guys dont have the habits and issues that these new policies are meant to control. I can tell you that filling the holes is proving to be a challenge, plenty of drivers but its not like back when us old guys came in.

Why comment on something you have no knowledge of and make yourself look foolish. The DC he worked out of is part of a random audit test program y they have no choice but to submit their records when asked to do so.

Nope don't text and drive, but I do talk for hours at times. I don't work for walmart, and wouldn't if they don't allow me to talk to friends and family. 3.5 hrs of talking is nothing. I drive all nights and hardly anybody is on the road, I see no problem with talking on the phone for hours.

I guess you hate your family since you don't talk to them.

I guess you don't listen to the radio as that could be distracting.

I guess you don't drink or eat while driving.

I guess you don't ever look at the clock as it is distracting.
