I recently started a delivery job driving a straight truck which includes lots of local runs and some regional routes. I'm also required to keep a log book and stop at weigh stations.

Today, I did lots of local runs. My lines 3 & 4 look like teeth of a comb because the runs are short and it doesn't take much time to get loaded/unloaded therefore my status changes every 15 to 20 minutes. My remarks section is mess because there is simply not enough space to document everything. Any advice on how to organize my remarks section so that DOT won't hassle me about it?

log them all as on duty IF they are in the same town. example: if you have 5 drops in rome,ga.,log every one of them as on duty, one continuous line.

Local driving is exempt from the HOS regulations. I'll post them in a minute I'm on my phone.

What you do the days you log local which means within 100 miles of the terminal, all time goes on line 4 on duty not driving, even driving.

The days you go outside the circle then you have to log it as it happens.

Thanks everybody for replying. Actually, it's my second day on the job and I'm on the only "shuttle" driver for our parts warehouse. It's a pretty big company with other locations, customers and vendors to pick up and delivery from. Local is within the county (one main city and three surrounding towns all within a 30 mile radius of each other). Some days I will have to travel 2 to 3 hours to other cities out of state for deliveries/pickups. I'm driving a flatbed straight truck so it takes me 15 to 20 minutes to strap/unstrap and for the forklift driver to remove/load pallets on flatbed.

local 2 days and 2 to 3 days out of state about 2 to 3 hours away

    Thanks X!

flatbed straight truck. Forklift driver puts on pallets and I strap them down. Takes about 20 minutes tops.

    Thanks Condo!

Thank you very much CondoCruiser. I'm going to print this and keep with me along with my green little book in case there is any issue with DOT.
